Picrorhiza kurroa (kutki) is a hairy herb belonging to Plantaginaceae/ Scropulariacea family and ... more Picrorhiza kurroa (kutki) is a hairy herb belonging to Plantaginaceae/ Scropulariacea family and found in some parts of India (Kashmir to Sikkim), Nepal, and China.They found application in various ailments such as inflammation, antioxidant activity, asthmatic activity, hepatic activity, etc. The compound constituents using HPLC retrieved the presence of eighteen compounds. HPTLC analysis confirmed and quantified the presence of six major compounds. The quantity of diosgenin was found to be (2.80%) maximum followed by chlorogenic acid (2.70% w/w of extract) in the DCM/Methanol leaf extract. Antibacterial activity was performed using the zone of inhibition method for eight different leaf extracts of Picrorhiza kurroa. Among the extracts, ethyl acetate extract showed good potency in terms of zone of inhibition (13.33±1.52) against S. aureus whereas n-butanol extract showed good potency (12.01±1.00) against S. mutans, acetone extracts showed good potency (16.66±.47) against E. coli, ac...
The aim of the present study was to evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Aloe vera ... more The aim of the present study was to evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Aloe vera (AV) in alloxan induced diabetes in albino rabbits. Experimental Diabetes was induced in rabbits with alloxan(80mg/Kg body weight)and animals showing fasting blood glucose levels more than 250mg/dl were considered as diabetics and divided into four groups of six each (n=6). Group I: Normal control rabbits, Group II: Alloxan induced diabetic rabbits, Group III: Diabetic rabbits received AV gel extract (300 mg/Kg) in aqueous solution for 21 days, Group IV: diabetic rabbits given glibenclamide (600ug/kg) in aqueous solution. All the drugs were administered orally (using an intra gastric tube) in a single dose in the morning for 21 days. Blood samples were collected from the marginal vein of pinna of overnight fasted rabbits (Blood sugar, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), Malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), total thiols (PSH) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD). It increases the production of beneficial phytoplanktons which further enhances the biological productivity. The advantage of use of vermicompost as organic fertilizer is availability of nutrients in ready- to- uptake form. The research was conducted to study the effect of vermicompost as pond fertilizer on growth performance of common carp. The experiment was carried out in 0.003 ha sized earthen ponds at fish hatchery of CCSHAU, Hisar for 150 days. Different organic fertilizers viz. Vermicompost@ 10000kg/ha/yr, vermicompost @5000kg/ha/yr and cowdung @ 10000kg/ha/yr were used in five replicates. One pond was treated as control. One forth dose of fertilizers were applied 15 days prior to fish stocking and remaining doses were given at fortnightly intervals.
