The present work has as purpose to make an analysis of the adverbs ending with the suffix -mente, present in the pronouncements of the president João Goulart. As a class of difficult definition, we will approach the process of classifying words, especially the classification of adverbs, through a review of the traditional grammars of Cunha & Cintra and Bechara, as well as the functionalist grammar of Neves . With sentences taken from the chosen corpus, rich in adverbs in question, we seek to analyze how these adverbs behave in the sentence, according to their functionality. For that, we will use the functionalist approaches of Neves and Ilari. The work will be finalized by looking at the adverbs that are finished in terms of stylistics. From Martins's perspective, we will try to understand how these words fit as a stylistic resource, and what stylistic impacts these adverbs elicit in President Jango's pronouncements.
