Se si può conoscere il territorio collezionando tappi da bibite perché non viaggiare alla scoperta dei nostri giacimenti culturali utilizzando il più tradizionale, seppur quasi obsoleto, strumento di comunicazione ovvero il vecchio francobollo da lettera? Qualche esempio in mente l'avevo già, retaggio di un tempo in cui si scriveva ancora a mano e per spedire una lettera bisognava passare dal tabaccaio e comprare il francobollo, inumidirlo sul retro per poi incollarlo sulla busta prima di infilarla nell'apposita buca presso l'ufficio postale. Conservo poi tre vecchi album di francobolli, utile sopravvenienza delle mie collezioni giovanili; per tutto il resto si può sempre contare su internet. La ricerca, estesa anche a soggetti internazionali residenti o operanti entro i nostri confini nazionali, si è rivelata proficua, al punto che si è reso necessario selezionare e organizzare il materiale secondo indicatori comuni. Iniziamo allora con le emissioni filateliche dedicate al capoluogo della Tuscia.

Il testo affronta la dibattuta questione dell'esatta ubicazione del Fanum Voltumnae rivendicata, ... more Il testo affronta la dibattuta questione dell'esatta ubicazione del Fanum Voltumnae rivendicata, non senza ragioni, sia da Orvieto che da Bolsena attraverso un'attenta analisi delle fonti archeologiche, letterarie e storiche inerenti la Dea Norzia, nel cui tempio a Volsinii avveniva annualmente il sacro rito dell'infissione del chiodo che scandiva il decorso del tempo presso gli etruschi. Attraverso il raffronto tra il culto della Dea e quello dedicato a Voltumna si formula una suggestiva ipotesi.

La sua conformazione geologica, frutto del fermento vulcanico incessante durato ottocentomila anni, ha favorito se non propriamente reso ineluttabile lo scavo delle necropoli da parte degli Etruschi che trovarono nel tufo, per le sue straordinarie caratteristiche di lavorabilità e consistenza, il materiale ideale ai loro fini. E così da allora senza soluzione di continuità: necropoli, are e monumenti funebri in epoca romana; insediamenti abitativi e relativi opifici di età medievale; romitori, oratori e chiese rupestri; reticoli idraulici e gallerie; cunicoli e cantine scavati nel tufo, sono tutte testimonianze di una pratica che è giunta fino ai nostri giorni.
