    The integration of wind energy (WE) with flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices into the grid to improve grid performance is one of the latest advances in renewable energy (RE) technology. This work proposes the optimal placement and size of a WE, a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) with two of FACTS controller, viz. thyristor-controlled series compensator (TCSC) static var compensator (SVC). The goal is to maximize system bus load (Max. LBS) and minimize active power loss (Min. Ploss) by satisfying various safety and stability constraints.     The stability and security improvements of the grid-connected to the wind energy conversion system (WECS) can be made by optimizing the placement of a flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS). This study discusses the optimal placement of one type of WECS, namely the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) with a series and a shunt-FACTS control device called unified power flow controller (UPFC). The DFIG and UPFC connected grid dynamic perfor mance improvement with a maximum load bus system scenario.     Saluran transmisi merupakan saluran untuk menyalurkan energi listrik dari pembangkit ke konsumen. Lokasi menara saluran transmisi pada suatu daerah tertentu sangat menentukan banyaknya gangguan yang terjadi akibat sambaran petir. Besar sambaran petir langsung pada menara atau kawat tanah dapat mengakibatkan back flashover pada isolator. Besarnya arus sambaran petir dan besarnya nilai resistansi pentanahan menara dapat mempengaruhi besarnya tegangan gangguan yang terjadi. Pada skripsi ini untuk mengurangi besar dampak tegangan gangguan yaitu dengan memperkecil nilai pentanahan menara. Dengan menambah panjang elektroda pentanahan dapat memperkecil nilai pentanahan menara. Salah satu metode untuk mengetahui kemampuan pembebanan sistem yaitu dengan menggunakan metode Continuation Power Flow, metode ini menggunakan Step Predictor dan Step Corrector Method untuk memperoleh besar nilai λ pada sistem. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan 2 case. case 1 pada kondisi dengan daya pada beban tetap dan daya pembangkitan tetap, case 2 daya pada pembangkit meningkat dan daya beban tetap.     Integrasi optimal berbagai teknologi Distributed Generation (DG) dalam jaringan distribusi telah menjadi salah satu perhatian utama bagi manajemen insinyur profesional dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Di antara banyak jenis DG, turbin angin adalah salah satu jenis DG yang dialokasikan secara optimal dalam jaringan listrik pada makalah ini untuk meningkatkan kinerja jaringan. Sebuah varian baru dari Algoritma Genetika (GA) khusus dalam masalah optimasi multi-tujuan yang dikenal sebagai Non-didominasi Sorting Algoritma Genetika II (NSGA-II) telah diusulkan untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut. Untuk membantu pembuat keputusan memilih solusi kompromi terbaik dari Pareto front, mekanisme berbasis fusszy digunakan dalam penelitian ini. NSGA-II digunakan untuk mendapatkan lokasi dan ukuran DG yang optimal dalam bus beban sistem yang sesuai. Fungsi multi-tujuan dinyatakan sebagai indeks kinerja sistem yaitu: maksimalisasi pembebanan sistem dalam marjinkeamanan dan stabilitassistem yaitu batas tegangan dan saluransementara minimalisasi rugi daya nyata dari saluran transmisi. Studi simulasi dilakukan pada modifikasi IEEE sistem 14-bus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kinerja dinamis dari sistem daya dapat secara efektif ditingkatkan dengan alokasi optimal dan ukuran DG.

    In this paper, a new methodology has been proposed for attaining the maximum instantaneous wind penetration by the optimal placement and setting of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controllers. Multiple of single type of FACTS controller namely SVC have been used for achieving the maximum wind penetration. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based algorithm has been developed to obtain the maximum instantaneous penetration by adjusting the grid parameters and FACTS controller settings. The developed algorithm has been tested on modified IEEE 14-bus test system. The results have shown the maximum instantaneous wind energy penetration limit in percentage, optimal setting of FACTS controllers and also maximum safe bus loading point explicitly beyond which system drives into instability.

    One type of Evolutionary Optimization Technique namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) have been proposed in this paper to obtain the optimal placement a Shunt Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) Controller i.e. Static VAr Compensator (SVC) in the network. An Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problem with mixed integer programming has been formulated for simultaneously optimizing multi-objectives optimization problem viz., enhancing the power system load ability, minimizing the active power loss of transmission line, and by considering installation cost of the controller whereas maintaining the system security and stability margins, e.g., small signal stability, fast voltage stability index, and line stability factor in their acceptable margins. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been investigated on a practical Java-Bali 24-bus Indonesia system. Results demonstrate that the static and dynamic performances of the power system can be effectively enhanced by the optimal allocation of the SVC in the network.

    This paper opens up a novel technique of end-user based energy saving and loss reduction technique evolved from a energy audit study conducted in the residential dormitories of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Bangkok, Thailand. An automatically switched capacitor was connected to some of the residential socket plugs of each dormitory and analyzed the capacity saving and loss minimization. This study focused on the healthy conclusion that a substation and a DG of 500 kVA could able to be eliminated in terms of the capacity investment and there was also a marginal saving in the institute monthly electricity bill payment to the Provisional Electricity Authority of Thailand due to the reduction in network losses.

    A significant power system occurrence, the voltage stability of the system due to the integration of new generation into the grid, has been investigated in this paper by using a continuous power flow (CPF) method consisting of successive load flows. Since one of the solutions to prevent voltage instability causing voltage collapse is by controlling the system's reactive power limit, in this study the effect of placing the Shunt FACTS controller, Static Var Compensator (SVC), into the grid against the voltage stability has been investigated. An accurate controller model supported by the PSAT (Power System Analysis Tool) is used to study the voltage stability of the system. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been examined on the 16-bus Bali practical test system due to the integration of the Celukan Bawang Power Station and by detecting the bifurcation point. Moreover, improving voltage magnitude profile and line power loss (Ploss) of the system are also investigated.

    A robust sequential primal-dual linear programming formulation for reactive power optimization is developed and discussed in this paper. The algorithm has the characteristic that no approximations or complicate control logic are required in the basic Sequential Linear Programming (SLP) formulation as used by other SLP algorithms reported in the literature. Transmission loss minimization is used as the primary objective. A secondary feasibility improvement objective is used which results in better feasible solution in comparison with the loss minimization objective especially when the initial base case has over voltages. Modification in the proposed method to obtain the limited amount and limited movement of controller solution for real time application is also presented. The algorithm has been tested on Ward and Hale 6-Bus system.

    In recent decades, one of the main management’s concerns of professional engineers is the optimal integration of various types of renewable energy to the grid. This paper discusses the optimal allocation of one type of renewable energy i.e. wind turbine to the grid for enhancing network’s performance. A multi-objective function is used as indexes of the system’s performance, such as increasing system loadability and minimizing the loss of real power transmission line by considering security and stability of systems’ constraints viz.: voltage and line margins, and eigenvalues as well which is representing as small signal stability.
