in the Republic of Macedonia. They are a product of the times that are of
exclusive importance for the history of medieval Macedonia. Their construction
was conditioned with circumstances and events that imposed the formation
of a great and exclusively powerful fortification. Because of this, this fortress
bears all the characteristics of the war construction of those times – from
the manner of building and use of material, to the form and the architectonic
solution of the fortress.

martyrs in a certain period of time (four and five century). The text deals with the cult of the ancestors as an analogy with the ideal of the Roman of mos maiorum and also gives an explanation of martyrdom and its significance, as well as the development and spread of the cult to the martyrs. The last part of the text gives explanations about the practice of cult to the St. Tiberiopolis martyrs through the perception of the two cult of worship that emanate from it: the cult of the ancestors and the cult of nature.

The paper argues that the monumentalization of historical narratives in the public space and culture creates new “national” ethnic identity of the city contributing to further ethnicization of community memory. If further supported, it threatens to create cultural-spatial enclaves with distinct mono-ethnical identity markers. Moreover, the economic role of culture in the current urban city policy is actually supporting the construction industry rather than the community, the citizens and cultural activities. The attempts to reconstruct specific and authentic city identity bears the danger of catalyzing the segregation and dividedness of the city while at the same time set an opportunity for academics, urbanites and cultural planners to reaffirm their critical position in the policy.
The objective of this research is to investigate, analyze and evaluate the current cultural policy in Macedonia embodied in the government's Skopje 2014 project, particularly in the Museum of the Victims of the Communist Regime as part of the Project, by putting the emphasis on the post-communist politics of memory, which is used for reshaping the post-communist and the national identity.
Keywords: Skopje 2014, national identity, nation, politics of memory, collective memory, cultural memory, cultural policy.
