Wie im Theoriekapitel 2.5 ausgefuhrt, betrachten wir die Studienphase als einen spannungsreichen ... more Wie im Theoriekapitel 2.5 ausgefuhrt, betrachten wir die Studienphase als einen spannungsreichen Prozess, der sich zwischen (mindestens) vier verschiedenen Bezugspunkten — der zuruckliegenden Sozialisation, dem antizipierten Beruf, dem studentischen und dem universitaren Kontext — entfaltet. Dabei wird der universitare Kontext zwar insbesondere durch die Lehrenden reprasentiert, die fachspezifisch Studieninhalte, aber auch -anforderungen vermitteln. Aber die Lehrenden sind ebenso wie die Studierenden in das Organisationssystem Universitat mit einbezogen, dessen Zeitordnung durch eine ganze Reihe weiterer Faktoren kontrolliert wird. Neben den Hochschulverwaltungen sind hier insbesondere auch die Wissenschaftsministerien und andere institutionelle Zeitgeber (z.B. Arbeitszeitregelungen) zu berucksichtigen, die die Rahmenbedingungen fur die Universitaten bestimmen. Im Verhaltnis zu den Studierenden haben die Temporalen Muster der Lehrenden eine grosere Definitionsmacht. Sie beeinflussen, so unsere Vermutung, eher die Temporalen Muster der Studierenden als umgekehrt. Allerdings konnten wir diese Annahme nicht auf direkte Weise prufen, da uns aus erhebungstechnischen und Datenschutz-Grunden eine Eins-zu-Eins-Zuordnung von Professoren und Studenten oder auch nur die Identifikation einer bestimmten Lehrperson uber die Angabe eines bestimmten Studierenden nicht moglich war.1

„Biologische Vielfalt“ ist ein besonderer Begriff, der komplexe Vorstellungen vom „Reichtum des L... more „Biologische Vielfalt“ ist ein besonderer Begriff, der komplexe Vorstellungen vom „Reichtum des Lebens“ auf eine wissenschaftliche Formel bringt und zugleich diesen Reichtum als erstrebenswerten Zustand markiert. Seit Anfang der 1990er Jahre fungiert das Meta-Narrativ „bedrohte Biodiversität“ als sinnstiftendes Moment internationaler Umweltpolitik. Dass die Einstellungsmessungen, die das „Bundesamt für Naturschutz“ seit 2009 in zweijährigem Turnus zum gesellschaftlichen Bewusstsein über biologische Vielfalt durchführen lässt, durch soziale Erwünschtheit kontaminiert sind, ist bekannt. Da bisherige Analysen entweder explizit oder implizit davon ausgehen, dass die Form der Verzerrung gleichförmig verläuft, sind Aussagen bzgl. Zusammenhängen und Gruppenvergleichen gefährdet. Kausale Machine-Learning-Verfahren eröffnen für die zugrunde liegende statistische Problematik einen neuen analytischen Zugang. Mit ihnen kann aufgedeckt werden, wie kausale Effekte variieren und welche Größen mit dieser Variation so im Zusammenhang stehen, dass sie Effektdifferenzen erklären können. In unserem konkreten Fall zeigen wir anhand von Causal-Forest-Modellen, dass der Einfluss von Sozialer Erwünschtheit auf Einstellungsmuster und Verhaltensintentionen zur biologischen Vielfalt systematisch variiert, wobei diese Effektheterogenität maßgeblich in nichtlinearer Weise mit dem Alter der Interviewees assoziiert ist. Darüber hinausgehend stellen wir dieses Verfahren als methodische Innovation zur Qualitätssicherung bei normativ aufgeladenen Befragungsthemen vor.

Zwar hat es immer wieder Versuche gegeben, Parsons’ Aussagen im Rahmen der empirischen Forschung zu testen (vgl. z.B. Jacobson 1971) bzw. fur solche Tests vorzubereiten (vgl. z.B. Fararo 1976). Da sie aber auf einer ganzen Reihe ungewohnter begrifflicher Voraussetzungen aufbauen, hat sich die Meinung durchgesetzt, dass die Parsons’sche Theoriebildung fur die Entwicklung einer erfahrungswissenschaftlich arbeitenden Soziologie wenig brauchbar (vgl. z.B. Alexander 1993) und heute nur noch „als eine dogmengeschichtliche Erinnerung“ (Esser 1996: 375) zu betrachten sei. Ubersehen wird dabei allerdings, dass Parsons in seinem Projekt einer allgemeinen Handlungstheorie eine kreative Losung fur ein zentrales Problem der soziologischen Forschung gefunden hat: das Problem, dass die Forschungstatigkeit strukturell identisch mit ihrem Forschungsgegenstand ist. Es beschaftigt die Soziologie bis in die Gegenwart und bewirkt, dass immer wieder neue Ansatze entwickelt werden, die es auf angemessene Weise Iosen sollen. Die doppelte Hermeneutik von Giddens (1995), die selbstreferentielle Theorieanlage von Luhmann (1984) und die Unterscheidung von Teilnahme und Beobachtung, die Habermas (1981) verwendet, sind dafur pragnante Beispiele.
