The proposed methodology demonstrates how using simple Fuzzy Logic concepts it is possible to associate symbolic descriptions to the entities of this level. It provides with the basic mechanisms for performing symbolic computation, evidence combination, uncertainty management and spatial reasoning at the segment level.

CoolBOT has been designed having in mind the idea of programming by integrating software components, in order to reduce the developing effort typically invested when programming robots. CoolBOT also fosters some interesting features, such as asynchronous execution , asynchronous inter communication, data-flow-driven processing, and cognizant failure systems. A simple demonstrator illustrates the benefits of using the proposed approach.

This system has been developedmade up by off-the-shelf components:DSPs, Pentium processor and a stereoscopicrobotic-head. These elements have allowedus to design and build a cost-effectivesystem whose first prototype is able toperform detection and tracking of mobileobjects in real-time and continuousoperation
