Josette Spartacus
Josette Spartacus holds a PhD in American literature from the University of Montpellier (« Stratégies de survie chez Edwidge Danticat, Jamaica Kincaid et Toni Morrison », 2015). She has been a teacher of English language and literature for 42 years and has been a teaching assistant in diverse Universities (Paris IV, Paris XIII, Paris X). She is what she calls herself ‘an independent tout-monde researcher’.
Since 2004 her research has been concentrating on Afro-American and Afro Caribbean writers. Before, she had concentrated on American and British poetry and on Irish and Scottish novels and folk music. Music and more specifically blues, folk, jazz has always been part of her research work.
Some of her articles have been published, the last ones being: “Hannah Craft’s Dialogizing Autobiography”, in « Women’s Life Writing and the Practise of Reading », London, Palgrave Macmillan, 2018 and “Graphing and Grafting in Jamaica Kincaid’s Garden Memoirs” published in the online Magazine Wagadu, in « Jamaica Kincaid as Crafter and Grafter », V.19, Summer 2018. The publication of an article on Toni Morrison entitled “The Errantry of the Whole World: Reading « Song of Solomon » with Edouard Glissant” is pending. However, a version of this paper is already available on academia.edu. Former articles include: “ Tentatives de définition du legs de la marge” in « Marges et périphéries dans les pays de langue anglaise », Gillespie/Laplace/Savaric ed. Paris. L’Harmattan. 2014. And : "Du rythme de la tribu à la danse sacrée" in « T.S. Eliot : Le temps des poètes », Noël Blandin Edition, 1991.
She is also a writer. Two novels of hers have been published to this day: « Négropolitude », Paris, L’Harmattan, 2016 and « Question d’arrière-boutique », Paris, L’Harmattan, 2018. She is currently working on her third novel.
