Carbon dioxide (CO2), as one of the major anthropogenic greenhouse gases, is widely acknowledged to contribute to global warming and climate change. Historically, the major focus on the role of the aquatic environment in the carbon cycle has been on the atmosphere-ocean exchange. More recent findings suggest the importance of freshwater (lakes, rivers and streams) as a source for atmospheric CO2. The freshwater contribution is, however, poorly understood, mainly due to a paucity of data, especially from running waters.  To address this issue, eddy covariance (EC) measurements in a large boreal river in Northern Sweden (Indalsalven), are being made as part of a two-year long continual study of the carbon dioxide fluxes between the air and water. This is one of the first known studies of its kind where EC measurements are conducted in a river setting. Continual data acquisition began in April 2018, monitoring a variety of general meteorological parameters, turbulent fluxes of carbon d...

We have studied the annealing of monolayer films of cylindrical polystyrene-b-poly(ethylene-alt-propylene) (PS-PEP) diblock copolymers at fixed temperature, in temperature gradients and in swept temperature gradients. For our PS-PEP system conventional annealing yielded correlation lengths on the order of about 3 mu m, sweeping the gradients through the order-disorder transition at a rate of 1 mu m/s yielded correlation lengths on

The TSTE350 stage was used to perform adhesion tests of transparent thin film electrodes on a PEN substrate at high temperature with a thermal accuracy of ±0.1°C. The data acquired by the stage combined to the optical analysis was key in determining the level of adhesion of such thin coatings on the polymer substrate as a function of temperature, as well as providing stress data at elevated temperatures, up to very high strain levels. The benefits of the in-situ method, simultaneously with sample heating are numerous. These include the accurate determination of critical factors, which control the mechanical integrity of ultrathin films, and the ability to reproduce environmental conditions present during process operations, or during operational life of a broad range of flexible electronic devices.
