La carriera ecclesiastica di Antonio Panciera è caratterizzata dall’incontro
con personalità importanti della sua epoca, come il cardinale Bonaventura
Badoer e i pontefici Urbano VI e Bonifacio IX.
cardinali riuniti in concilio a Pisa. Nel 1411 è nominato cardinale dal
papa pisano Giovanni XXIII. Tre anni più tardi partecipa al concilio di
Costanza, che avrebbe dovuto porre fine alle divisioni interne alla Chiesa.
Il Panciera trascorre, quindi, gli ultimi anni della sua vita a Roma,
dedicandosi agli studi giuridici e a quelli umanistici. La sua famiglia,
rimasta in Friuli, consolida, invece, la propria presenza a Zoppola, di cui
negli anni passati aveva acquistato il castello.

This contribution offers some reflections on the origin of the archdeaconry of Concordia and on how it evolved between the 11th and 16th centuries. The research focuses on the exercise of the placit of Christianity and on the forms of collaboration established with the bishops and with the cathedral chapter; it also offers biographical information on the ecclesiastics called to hold the archdeacon office in medieval times.

This paper provides unpublished information on the Panigai family who, as opponents of patriarch of Aquileia Pagano della Torre, were able to reconcile with his successor Bertrand of Saint-Geniès, guaranteeing their family newly found prosperity. The research focuses in particular on Nicolò di Panigai and his nephew Nicoletto del fu ser Vermiglio from Meduna di Livenza, and on their gradual inclusion into the social, economic and political life of Portogruaro.

This contribution aims to reconstruct the ecclesiastical career of the nobleman Morando di Porcia during the patriarchies of Pagano della Torre (1319-1332) and Bertrando of Saint-Geniès (1334-1350). Canon of Aquileia, diplomat, military operations expert, member of the council of Parliament, over the years he made an important contribution to the government action of the Aquileian prelates. In moments of particular difficulty he was a point of reference for the episcopate and the cathedral chapter of Concordia. His services were rewarded with the recognition of numerous benefits in Aquileia, Cividale, Concordia and Ceneda and with the appointment as patriarchal chaplain. He did not neglect to take care of the interests of his family, for which he obtained a leading role in Friuli and numerous fiefdoms.

This essay aims at analysing an aribtration which, in the first half of 1300, saw the Bishopo of Concordia, Guido Guizzi from Reggio Emilia, against Cucitino di Montereale, a nobleman, about the civil jurisdiction upon low Val Cellina. The depositions collected during this arbitration, entrusted to father Guarniero, vicar at San Marco in Pordenone, proved particularly interesting as  they allow to go deeper into the historical knowledge of the mountain area of Friuli under the diocese of Concordia.

This article is intended as an analysis of a crucial moment in the story of Santa Maria Abbey in Sesto al Reghena, in which we see the gradual success of the Pope's terms on the Abbot designation. The investigation on some unpublished documents, drawn up by the notary Pietro Brunelleschi around the half of 14th century, reveals internal dynamics of the Abbey, the Aquileia Patriarch's role, the Lords of the Frattina's influence, the personal ambition of Tommaso, Abbot of Summaga, the last abbot elected by the monks, but not confirmed by the Pope.

Through the analysis of Viviano’s Last Will of the departed Pileo of Prata, written
on 25th January 1358, this essay investigates some traits of the genealogy of this important clique in Friuli and its link to Fiumicino, a village near Tiezzo. Particularly interesting are the pieces of information regarding the settlement pattern along the left bank of the river Fiume, equipped with a defensive curtain and productive systems. Archaeological evidence and worship reference allow to have new elements also on the chapel dedicated to the Aquileian martyr Giusto and on the community referring to the chapel itselfs.

This article stems from a study of church institutions of Friuli. Through examining some notarial deeds concerning the Scuole Capitolari of Cividale, a deed drawn up by the notary Guglielmo di Cividale was found; this concerns the "magister" Marchetto da Padova's renunciation of all his rights to the position of "magister scolarum" of those same schools. It is not absolutely certain whether this refers to the musician Marchetto da Padova, the principal theorist of the Italian "Ars Nova", but there are some coincidences in the document that lend weight to this hypothesis. Indeed both men come from Padua, they are both churchmen and they have a very similar "professional qualification". If we accept this working hypothesis, new information about the "magister cantus" of Padua cathedral emerges. In fact, from the document drawn up by the notary Guglielmo we learn of his patronymic ("filius magistri Egidii sartoris") and we also come to know that in 1317 Marchetto was in Avignon to see his expectations regarding a benefice in Cividale materialise.
