I am a doctor in human geography. I am interested in market innovations, the agro-ecological transition and, more generally, in the study of agricultural and food practices.I also have a 10 years experience in urban agriculture, applied agroecology, urban permaculture and organic gardening in tropical environment (Réunion Island). My main objective is to overcome the modern separation between knowledge and practice, following a geographical idea and the pragmatist philosophy: the task is not just to understand the world but to change it.
I use interdisciplinary, participatory action research methods to explore the contextual processes that shape transitions. For this purpose, my expertise lies in studying the intersection of consumption with broader dynamics in systems of provisioning. My research is part of a broadening body of social science approaches to sustainable consumption and environmental governance research. My current research interests focus on understanding everyday practices and their dynamics across time and space and can be situated at the interface between human geography, economic sociology, "follow the thing" approaches, innovation biographies, and science and technology studies. I am particularly interested in the interrelationships between socio-cultural and technological change and the evolution of social practices in people's daily lives.

A key player in the fruits and vegetables supply in Reunion: the bazardiers from 1848 to today.
This article studies the processes of emergence, evolution and adaptation experienced by the food provisioning of Reunion island, since the abolition of slavery in 1848, until today. We identify two main trajectories in which coexist and confront several ways of organizing the food system. The article explains how transitions succeed one another in a temporal continuum, despite major crises that permanently affect the strategies of the actors involved. In particular, we show how the bazardiers were able to adapt to these transformations and to resist the attempts of collective discipline imposed by the authorities, while preserving their grip on the market of fruits and vegetables.

Abstract In Reunion Island, a little red fruit locally known as " goyavier " arouse a collective interest which translates it into a patrimonial resource for rural development. At the same time, the institution of a national park and its registration on the UNESCO world heritage list are source of many tensions and conflicts involving both the cultural and environmental facets of the heritage. In facts, strawberry guava is an invasive species and its management is an essential condition in order to maintain the precious label. This case study shows that a consensus around heritage is not always easy to reach; even defining its status can't be taken for granted. So, we think it become necessary to engage a debate about it, coupled with adapted procedures of communication and education.

The contribution starts from the current celebrations of CIRAD's 60th anniversary on the French i... more The contribution starts from the current celebrations of CIRAD's 60th anniversary on the French island of Réunion. These celebrations reflect an amnesia which hides the fact that CIRAD was created in 1984 following the merger of the “Institut de Recherche sur les Fruits et les Agrumes” (IRFA, formerly IFAC – “Institut des Fruits et des Agrumes Colonial”, created in the 1960s) with other departments (mechanization and others). Furthermore, this amnesia reveals a certain conception of science and its relationship to the world. The communication used and the means allocated support a techno-scientific and linear model (scientists in white coats, experimental stations, etc.), which is criticized in particular by peasant and S&T studies. This techno-scientific regime disguises both the informal circuits through which more than 70% of fruit and vegetables transit, as well as an innovation regime based on collective experimentation (Joly et al, 2010) (short supply chains, urban farming, etc.). While exchanges between the different circuits and regimes are common, the national and european support for this model, anchored in the paradigm of modernization, does not favor the coexistence and co-evolution of innovation regimes towards sustainability, but rather leads to open confrontation, exacerbated by persistent social inequalities (Wen Tiejun, 2007; Gasselin et al, 2021). We argue that the agricultural knowledge accumulated and produced by expert systems such as the local agents of the French Ministry of Agriculture and the applied research institutes is increasingly disconnected from reality. This way of doing things and conceiving problems produces a 'virtual farmer' (Ploeg, 2003), and results in a techno-solutionist headlong rush that will not be sufficient to overcome past, present and future crises.

Path and place dependance explain a paradoxical situation in the fruit and vegetable supply: on one hand a majority of small and often informal vendors sell almost 80% of the local production ; on the other hand, producers' organizations and a few wholesalers sell just 20% of the local production in supermakets, despite important public subsidies.

The agroecological transition emerge in this complexe situation, driven by committed consumers and mostly in short supply chains.

Created in 2010, the company actually counts over 400 “Assemblies” around France and Belgium, bringing together more than 50.000 people in 2013. The business model will be analyzed within the context of french Réunion island

A key player in the fruits and vegetables supply in Reunion: the bazardiers from 1848 to today.

This comparative research tries to give a better understading of the mutual links beetween the territorial context and the role of Slow Food in the qualification processes.
In the 1st part, particular attention is dedicated to the construction of the geographical object of the analysis: the terroir (chapter 1). The following chapters explore the political, economical and sociological aspects of quality, notably when linked to the territory (chapter 2) and their consequences on the research methodologies required to provide an holistic and useful application for local actors.
The 2nd part is based on territorial studies coupled with actor-network and heritage construcion analysis concerning four Slow Food presidia from Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France and Veneto in northern Italy: Pardhailhan's turnip, Pelardon cheese, Biancoperla corn and Morlacco cheese. Descriptive statistics and bibliography are associated with in depth interviews and discours analysis, based on recordings made from december 2009 and june 2010 (only available at Montpellier university).
We use invertebrate biodiversity as bioindicators of sustainability of the agroecosystems.
Our findings underline the importance of invertebrates for sustainables landscapes, encouraging to follow this hopeful way to assess biodiversity in farm activities.
