A triloxía Qatsi, dirixida por Godfrey Reggio nas tres últimas décadas do século xx e composta po... more A triloxía Qatsi, dirixida por Godfrey Reggio nas tres últimas décadas do século xx e composta por Koyaanisqatsi (1982), Powaqqatsi (1988) e Naqoyqatsi (2002), supuxo un cambio de paradigma no xeito de filmar o noso contorno e a nosa relación con el, asumindo unha lóxica posthumanista no seu achegamento. A través da experimentación técnica e narrativa, modificando a escala temporal e espacial á que temos acceso como seres vivos, permítenos unha comprensión moi-to maior dos cambios que ocorren no mundo e unha reflexión, sen verbas, sobre o camiño que deberiamos tomar a nivel global, mais tamén local. Así, afonda na pe-gada humana e na evolución tecnolóxica relacionándoa co ecoloxismo. Neste artigo tentamos atopar esas reflexións e a súa relación real co posthumanismo. Ao mesmo tempo, pretendemos aplicar esas lóxicas de comprensión do mundo á evolución da relación coa natureza tanto en Galiza como en Portugal ao longo do úl-timo medio século.

A lo largo de los años ochenta del siglo XX el director polaco Piotr Szulkin realizaría lo que pa... more A lo largo de los años ochenta del siglo XX el director polaco Piotr Szulkin realizaría lo que para gran parte de su público es su tetralogía esencial, compuesta por Golem (1980), en la que adaptaba libremente la leyenda del Golem de Praga escrita por Gustav Meynrik en 1915; The War of the Worlds: Next Century (Wojna światów – Następne Stulecie, 1981), que repensaba la dramatización de La Guerra de los Mundos hecha por Orson Welles en 1938 en un futuro con la televisión como principal medio de información; O-Bi, O-Ba: El fin de la civilización (O-bi, O-ba: Koniec Cywilizacji, 1985), donde nos lleva al interior de un búnker tras un desastre nuclear y Ga-ga: Gloria a los héroes (Ga, ga. Chwała Bohaterom, 1986), protagonizada por un recluso exiliado a otro planeta donde es tratado como un héroe antes de ejecutarlo. Cuatro films en los que nos representaba futuros distópicos con sociedades alienadas y en proceso de descomposición, pero que se unen a través de los mitos que generan las autoridades para conservar el statu quo. Partiendo de esta idea, en nuestro estudio pretendemos analizar cómo se interrelacionan los cuatro films entre ellos y, más importante, hasta dónde emplea Szulkin sus historias para establecer un reflejo especular de la sociedad polaca de los ochenta. Una década en la que el propio director vería mermadas sus posibilidades de hacer cine entre 1981 y 1983 debido a la implantación de una Ley Marcial y en la que la presencia de voces críticas con el comunismo aliadas con la Iglesia Católica presagiaba la caída del sistema económico. De este modo, al igual que en las sociedades que presenta Szulkin, encontramos una lógica de alienación a través del relato mítico en las fuerzas opuestas que intentaban controlar el país centroeuropeo a través de manejar la opinión pública. El mito que consideraremos, no obstante, no se cierra a lo religioso ni a lo ritual, siguiendo el pensamiento del mismo como relato tradicional que codifica valores sociales, explicando el mundo que rodea al oyente desde una perspectiva más emocional que intelectual y haciéndole partícipe de una realidad mediada en la que establecer sus relaciones humanas y sociales. De este modo, en Golem nos encontramos con un mito recogido desde la creación de seres humanos artificiales para suplantar a individuos en la sociedad –todo ello negado por el gobierno, pero funcionando como leyenda urbana–; en The War of the Worlds: Next Century el mito habla de una invasión extraterrestre, inventada por los medios para controlar a la población a través del miedo; en O-Bi, O-Ba: El fin de la civilización se refiere a un arca que llegará en algún momento para salvar a los habitantes del búnker y en Ga-ga: Gloria a los héroes se eleva al protagonista a la altura de los héroes para hacerle caer en desgracia una vez el mito cale entre la población, para ejecutarle en un violento ritual, a modo de ejemplo para los restantes habitantes. Cuatro films, por tanto, que mezclan una ambientación futurista en mundos alienados donde las autoridades emplean la mentira para el control social, con una representación velada de la contemporaneidad. Films en los que lo que intentamos analizar es su conexión con los mitos, y como la realidad comprendida a través de ellos es utilizada por parte de las élites sociales para perpetuar su poder.

La presente investigación se centra en la influencia que el movimiento surrealista ejerció dentro... more La presente investigación se centra en la influencia que el movimiento surrealista ejerció dentro del cine de las naciones de Centroeuropa entre 1945 y 1990. A través del análisis de filmografías y obras concretas de autores, estudia sus similitudes y diferencias en la aproximación al cine desde una perspectiva surrealista, situándolas en su contexto sociopolítico y comparándolas con el movimiento creado por André Breton. Para ello, pretende establecer una visión transnacional a la hora de acercarse a las particularidades de los diferentes autores y autoras que analiza, situándolos en su justo contexto bajo los gobiernos comunistas y en relación a las políticas del momento. De este modo, nos acercamos con una óptica novedosa al cine nacido en la Centroeuropa comunista, intentando revelar relaciones en el modo de comprender las vanguardias cinematográficas por parte de autores nacidos en los diferentes países que conforman nuestra selección

(Kdo Chce Zabít Jessii?, Václav Vorlíček, 1966) es una película que, desde la comedia y las formas más propias del cine de entretenimiento ligero, sirve como planteamiento de comunicación entre las especificidades del lenguaje del cómic y del cine. En ella, los personajes aparecidos en un tebeo para adultos cobraban forma corpórea en la realidad objetiva diegética, destrozando el mundo y comunicándose a través de bocadillos de texto. La relación entre las formas de diálogo de ambas artes narrativas se convierte en un juego que nos obliga a repensar la representación gráfica del texto y del diálogo en el cine, así como las diferencias narrativas que presentan, debido a la diferenciación en la forma síncrona o temporal, el noveno y el séptimo arte. Del mismo modo, la representación de personajes incapaces de emitir sonidos, comunicándose solo a través de texto escrito en pantalla, ejecuta una suerte de reflexión sobre el cine silente y la evolución hacia el cine sonoro, enfrentando dos momentos históricos de la técnica cinematográfica.

Poco podía imaginar André Breton la importancia que su movimiento llegaría a alcanzar en todas la... more Poco podía imaginar André Breton la importancia que su movimiento llegaría a alcanzar en todas las artes cuando escribía en 1924 su Manifiesto del Surrealismo, llamando a los artistas a una revolución estética, interior y social. También le resultaría difícil suponer los cambios políticos que estarían por llegar en el viejo continente durante las siguientes décadas: Tras el horror de la 2ª Guerra Mundial los países de la Europa Oriental hacían su revolución y se alineaban con las tesis del comunismo. En Centroeuropa se creaba así una frontera entre ambos sistemas. Una frontera que pertenecía casi en exclusiva al lado oriental, con industrias nacionalizadas, sistemas censores férreos y economías controladas por las democracias populares, pero en la que hasta ese momento había existido conexión e intercambios culturales con la Europa occidental. Estados en los que el movimiento de Breton había calado profundamente en los círculos artísticos de entreguerras. Estados en los que, también, se impondrían las tesis del realismo socialista como las únicas válidas para la creación artística, especialmente evidentes en el cine, que ya Lenin había definido como el arte más importante de todas.
Todo ello crearía un caldo de cultivo único para que en los 45 años que transcurrieron entre que el telón de acero cayó sobre esta frontera hasta que se retiró pudiésemos asistir al auge y decadencia de directores y directoras que decidían alejarse de los principios básicos que se le imponían desde la censura y recoger el surrealismo como base desde la que subvertir el cine y crear films comprometidos, complejos y llenos de magia. Films que, por la censura de sus países, por la censura económica e ideológica que imponía al otro lado del telón el capital y por las dificultades de interpretación de sus propuestas han quedado muchas veces relegados en las historiografías oficiales del séptimo arte.
En este volumen intentamos remediar ese olvido y recuperar un cine casi ignoto, lleno de imaginación, que nos habla de una parte fascinante de la historia política de Europa. Porque este no es solo un libro de cine, como ninguna historia del cine lo es.

La intención es encontrar qué patrones sociológicos dan pie al nacimiento de este movimiento considerado dentro de los Nuevos Cines, y cómo estos se imbrican en los modos de construcción del discurso de los autores y autoras esenciales para comprender la Nová Vlna entre 1963 y 1969.
