To this end, relevant bibliographic references were retrieved from the Library and Information Science s (LISA) database, and their titles and abstracts were treated using the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) method, a statistical thematic modeling technique. Nineteen thematic sets were found and analyzed, labeled, and systematized in four main areas: processes, information technologies, libraries, and specialized documentations. Next, the results in Spanish were compared with international results obtained previously using the same methodology. In conclusion, LIS literature in Spanish mainly follows the international trends: during the last 50 years, the thematic focus of research has shifted from libraries and informational organizations to users and the development of specific systems and solutions. However, LIS research in Spanish also presents distinct characte...

This research involved analysis of 499 documents and data triangulation with 113 interviews and 135 surveys. This comprehensive framework is a useful Ibero-American guideline for developing new information literacy programs or strengthening existing ones at a worldwide level.

The altmetrics imply a complementary approach that can shed light on specific aspects which are not easy to be addressed by more traditional scientific approaches, neither bibliometric nor conceptual. That is why, the altmetrics include relevant features, like visualization, document downloads, quotes, recommendations and markers. These aspects can contribute to explain the impact and relevance of the scientific literatura from a wider perspective. A analysis of most altmetric impact documents was carried out to manifest the main research trends in the subdomain of the Infomation Science. After we had carried out our altmetric review, we concluded that this perspective, applied to the IL and the mobile technologies have become a growing trend that is reaching a significant relevance, in addition to the traditional bibliometric analysis, and that covers, in a context of mobile learning and relation, which are in a unstoppable procces of spiral growing, new and very significant dimensions in the approach to the impact and significance of the scientific production.

Validation was carried out by administering the instrument to a pilot group of teachers, all of whom were experts in new technologies selected from the Information and Communication, Business and Education degrees, together with a rubric to analyse the quality and relevance of the content, as well as the wording of the items. Quantitative and qualitative methodologies were combined (statistical and descriptive analyses). The results from the quantitative-qualitative analysis of the evaluation rubric and the psychometric analysis of the items show the strengths of the questionnaire and the possible improvements that could be made to optimise it, which were focused on small adjustments to some of the categories and the reordering of sev...

Design/methodology/approach The IL-HUMASS, EVALCI/KN and EVALCI/SK tests regarding the affective (attitudes, motivations) and cognitive (knowledge, skills) dimensions are distributed to a stratified sample of five universities and eight degree courses in Spain. Infographics and non-parametric methods allow to compare the disciplinary profiles with regard to gender, academic course and academic degrees. An Information Literacy Communication synthetic indicator based on structural equation modeling includes the subjective and effective dimensions to measure the holistic learning outcomes in communication–dissemination of information. Findings Significant differences regarding the informational behavior of future professionals in SS are discovered. The synthetic...

The data were gathered from a detailed questionnaire survey conducted during the years 2012–2013. The information was collected through open questions, which were later codified and standardized to allow quantitative analysis. In the results and discussion, the information literacy planning landscape in Ibero-America is presented in its most general and abstract aspects – the national policies – its visibility in the institutional strategic plans, and its deployment through specific programmes and actions. Widespread progress can be appreciated, as a large number of the institutions to which the invited experts belong have achieved the implementation of systematic programmes (42.9%), and with the rest, except in one case, ...

Using the Delphi method, it explores the views of a group of experts made up of INFOLIT academics and professionals. The results show that the concept of “life cycle” is not generally accepted by the participant experts, that there is agreement regarding INFOLIT essential stages and that the experts know and apply international standards and models on INFOLIT, alongside some models developed from their own countries. All in all, the paper aims to contribute to a broader international panorama on information literacy.

This test is one of the outcomes of project InfoLiTrans, aimed at applying an overall framework for assessing the acquisition of the information competence in four big macro areas: information search, assessment of information, information treatment, and communication and dissemination of information. Design/methodology/approach – The test was used to analyse, explore, and improve the information competence of Translation and Interpreting trainees from 17 universities in Spain. Data were processed and analysed after collecting responses at two levels of difficulty: basic and advanced. A statistical descriptive analysis was performed to diagnose the learning level of each competence area. Findings – Overall levels of information management were found to be excellent,...

This book considers the specific information literacy needs of different communities of practice ... more This book considers the specific information literacy needs of different communities of practice from an international perspective KEY FEATURES • Focuses on communities of practice, including research, and higher education and their distinct information needs • Includes chapters from an international and experienced set of contributors • Presents an interdisciplinary perspective on the topic DESCRIPTION Pathways into Information Literacy and Communities of Practice: Teaching Approaches and Case Studies considers the specific information literacy needs of communities of practice. As such, the book fills a gap in the literature, which has treated information literacy extensively, but has not applied it to the area of communities of practice. Since every community of practice generates, seeks, retrieves, and uses resources and sources related to the cognitive structure being researched or studied, and the tasks being performed, the need arises to undertake studies focused on real user communities, especially at a graduate level. This edited collection presents contributions from an international perspective on this key topic in library and information science.
