Achieving Equality Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth (2018-2020) - a research project examining the experiences of trans youth in post-primary / secondary schools in Ireland. I was based at the University of Limerick, Ireland. The partner organisation was Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI). It was funded by the Irish Research Council and Marie Curie Actions.
The Sonke CHANGE Trial (2015 - 2017) - led a ethnographic / qualitative longitudinal arm of a cluster-randomised trial of a community mobilisation intervention aimed at reducing violence against women. The trial was funded through What Works To Prevent Violence? A Global Programme on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)funded by the UK Government’s Department for InternationalDevelopment (DFID).
Mental Health Policy and Practice in Northern Ireland's Criminal Justice System (2011 - 2014) - Doctoral research investigating personality disorder policy and practice in Northern Ireland's prison system. Based at Queen's University Belfast. Funded by the Economic Social Research Council.

experiences, the majority are exposed to institutionalized cisnormativity that makes them vulnerable to macroaggressions, microaggressions and violence within school settings. Trans youth’s exposure to institutionalized cisnormativity was found to intersect with multiple vectors of social power, which subject some trans youth to multiple forms of disadvantage, while affording others degrees of privilege. In conclusion, the findings show that trans youth’s educational experiences reflect broader structural inequalities yet defy essentialising explanations.
