Humans affect streams by modifying the landscape in ways that increase the transport of nutrients to surface waters, by directly dumping urban or industrial sewage into the stream, or by modifying streams in ways that reduce their ability to respond to increased nutrient loads. In Mediterranean regions these problems are compounded by the scarcity of water. The decision-making processes involved in water quality management require extensive human expertise or extensive computation with large data sets. In this sense, the STREAMES project aims to develop a knowledge-based environmental decision support system (EDSS) to support and advice water managers in the management of human-altered streams. Metal artifact reduction (MAR) methods are continuously used for minimizing artifacts in Computed... more Metal artifact reduction (MAR) methods are continuously used for minimizing artifacts in Computed Tomography (CT/CAT scans) and although they are largely used, there is a lack of suggestions to evaluate such methods (especially the interpolation-based ones). In this paper, we propose an approach for assessment of a MAR method based on interpolation techniques. We have used four interpolation techniques, evaluating their performances in two different scenarios: an artificial image simulation for quantitative assessment, and one real image for qualitative assessment. We have adopted the Sinogram Completion method, widely used for metal artifact reduction. The linear interpolation had presented better results in comparison to other interpolation techniques in both scenarios. The MAR method (Sinogram Completion) associated to the linear interpolation technique presents the most efficient results, which justifies the current researchers' interest in this particular technique.

O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a performance do material poli ácido lático (PLA) quando... more O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a performance do material poli ácido lático (PLA) quando manufaturado pela tecnologia modelagem por fusão e deposição (FDM). Para a elaboração e organização do procedimento experimental, este estudo foi construído de acordo com a norma ASTM D3039/3039-95A, utilizando um total de 36 corpos de prova, modelados através do software CAD Autodesk Inventor e, posteriormente, exportados para o software CAM Makerware, onde definiu-se os parâmetros e processos para a impressão 3D. Os ensaios de tração foram realizados na máquina EMIC DL 3000, mantendo uma condição padrão com o laboratório a uma temperatura em torno de 20°C. Os valores definidos como significativos para este estudo foram: Tensão Máxima; Tensão de Ruptura e Módulo de Elasticidade. Os corpos de prova manufaturados apresentaram comportamento anisotrópico. Worldwide medical device embedded software certification practices are currently focused on manuf... more Worldwide medical device embedded software certification practices are currently focused on manufacturing best practices. In Brazil, the national regulatory agency does not hold a local certification process for software-intensive medical devices and admits international certification (e.g. FDA and CE) from local and international industry to operate in the Brazilian health care market. We present here a product-based certification process as a candidate process to support the Brazilian regulatory agency ANVISA in medical device software regulation. Center of Strategic Technology for Healthcare (NUTES) medical device embedded software certification is based on a solid safety quality model and has been tested with reasonable success against the Class I risk device Generic Infusion Pump (GIP).

The objective of this article is to evaluate how the intelligent insoles can be used for gait parameter analysis, which includes the following parameters: stride duration, cadence, stride length and gait speed. It is an integrative review of articles published in the last five years in the bases: SciELO, PubMed and Lilacs, with a final sample of 7 articles. Technologies using wireless data transmission are becoming increasingly popular, and the wireless... more Technologies using wireless data transmission are becoming increasingly popular, and the wireless body area network, allied directly to the wireless sensor network, has been studied and implemented by many researchers and industry. Monitoring of children and the elderly has been one of the main focuses in studies related to the injuries suffered by them, in the home environment. In this perspective, the system assists the person in charge of monitoring the child from 0 to 6 years old and the elderly, showing, through an application installed in the smartphone of the responsible, eventual falls in the elderly, excessive distances of the child and the ambient temperature, as well as other configurations application and sensors used. Therefore, the smartphone application will be notified, assisting in the decision making of the parents or guardians.
