This study proposes the machine learning based classification of medical plant leaves. The total six varieties of medicinal plant leaves-based dataset are collected from the Department of Agriculture, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. These plants are commonly named in English as (herbal) Tulsi, Peppermint, Bael, Lemon balm, Catnip, and Stevia and scientifically named in Latin as Ocimum sanctum, Mentha balsamea, Aegle marmelos, Melissa officinalis, Nepeta cataria, and Stevia rebaudiana, respectively. The multispectral and digital image dataset are collected via a computer vision laboratory setup. For the preprocessing step, we crop the region of the leaf and transform it into a gray level format. Secondly, we perform a seed intensity-based edge/line detection utilizing Sobel filter and draw five regions of observations. A total of 65 fused features dataset is extracted, being a combination of texture, run-length matrix, and multi-spectral features. For the feature opti...

The unit-Rayleigh distribution is a one-parameter distribution with support on the unit interval. It is defined as the so-called unit-Weibull distribution with a shape parameter equal to two. As a particular case among others, it seems that it has not been given special attention. This paper shows that the unit-Rayleigh distribution is much more interesting than it might at first glance, revealing closed-form expressions of important functions, and new desirable properties for application purposes. More precisely, on the theoretical level, we contribute to the following aspects: (i) we bring new characteristics on the form analysis of its main probabilistic and reliability functions, and show that the possible mode has a simple analytical expression, (ii) we prove new stochastic ordering results, (iii) we expose closed-form expressions of the incomplete and probability weighted moments at the basis of various probability functions and measures, (iv) we investigate distributional pro...

The advent of new devices, technology, machine learning techniques, and the availability of free large speech corpora results in rapid and accurate speech recognition. In the last two decades, extensive research has been initiated by researchers and different organizations to experiment with new techniques and their applications in speech processing systems. There are several speech command based applications in the area of robotics, IoT, ubiquitous computing, and different human-computer interfaces. Various researchers have worked on enhancing the efficiency of speech command based systems and used the speech command dataset. However, none of them catered to noise in the same. Noise is one of the major challenges in any speech recognition system, as real-time noise is a very versatile and unavoidable factor that affects the performance of speech recognition systems, particularly those that have not learned the noise efficiently. We thoroughly analyse the latest trends in speech rec...

By making use of the concept of basic (or q-) calculus, various families of q-extensions of starlike functions of order α in the open unit disk U were introduced and studied from many different viewpoints and perspectives. In this paper, we first investigate the relationship between various known classes of q-starlike functions that are associated with the Janowski functions. We then introduce and study a new subclass of q-starlike functions that involves the Janowski functions. We also derive several properties of such families of q-starlike functions with negative coefficients including (for example) distortion theorems.

In the present feeding trial, responses of laying hens, kept at high ambient temperature, to various dietary ratios of linoleic acid (LNA) to α-linolenic acid (ALA) and vitamin A levels on performance and egg characteristics were evaluated. A total of 360, 40-wk-old, Leghorn laying hens were fed on diets with various combinations of canola oil and linseed oil to achieve LNA to ALA dietary ratios of 20:1, 10:1, 4:1, 2:1, 1:1 and 1:2, each supplemented with 3000 IU or 10000 IU vitamin A/kg of diet. The diets were fed in a 6×2 factorial Completely Randomized Design that continued for 12 weeks. Feed intake, weight gain, egg production and egg quality traits were recorded during the trial. Decreasing dietary LNA to ALA ratio in the diet affected negatively (P<0.05) on body weight gain and yolk percentage in laying hens. While, feed intake, hen-day and hen-housed egg production, feed conversion ratio (FCR) per dozen of eggs and shell quality remained unaffected (P>0.05) by dietary t...

The present work deals with the biological and phytochemical studies on Capparis decidua (Forssk) Edgew from Cholistan desert of Pakistan. Aerial and floral parts of C. decidua were collected and dried under shade. Powdered materials of each part of C. decidua were extracted with methanol separately, followed by phytochemical studies. Hexane fraction of aerial parts of the C. decidua obtained after solvent-solvent extraction was purified through repeated column chromatography by increasing order of polarity. Four compounds were purified and identified as simiarenol (1), lupeol (2), taraxerol (3) and β-sitosterol (4). Simiarenol and lupeol were isolated for the first time from genus Capparis. The structures of these compounds were established by comparing the spectroscopic data (H NMR, C NMR, IR, UV & Mass spectrometry) reported in literature. The structure of 1 was further confirmed by XRD analysis. Anti-bacterial activities of crude methanolic extracts were determined against 13 bacterial strains (MIC 250-1000 μg/mL). α-Glucosidase and urease inhibitory activities of pure compounds were also determined. Compounds 1, 2 and 4 showed α-glucosidase inhibition with IC at 96.12 ± 0.12, 65.28 ± 0.13 and 128.14 ± 0.17 μM, respectively.

Individuals with psychiatric disorders have elevated rates of autoimmune comorbidity and altered immune signaling. It is unclear whether these altered immunological states have a shared genetic basis with those psychiatric disorders. The present study sought to use existing summary-level data from previous genome-wide association studies to determine if commonly varying single nucleotide polymorphisms are shared between psychiatric and immune-related phenotypes. We estimated heritability and examined pair-wise genetic correlations using the linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) and heritability estimation from summary statistics methods. Using LDSC, we observed significant genetic correlations between immune-related disorders and several psychiatric disorders, including anorexia nervosa, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, smoking behavior, and Tourette syndrome. Loci significantly media...

Introduction Academic undertakings, including research, lead to career progression. However, the career paths of female psychiatrists appear to diverge significantly from that of their male counterparts. This article reviews the pervasiveness of the trend of women being less likely to pursue active research in psychiatry. In addition, we examine the correlation between academic rank and research productivity. Methods We searched the American Medical Association's (AMA) Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database (FREIDA) to identify training programs for psychiatry. A total of 5234 psychiatrists met our inclusion criteria. The gender, academic rank, research work, and h-index of faculty members were compared. The ratio of women reaching senior ranks as compared to men was also calculated. The Scopus database was used to determine the h-index of the individuals included in this study. Data analysis was done with SPSS 22.0 Release 2013 (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows...

We report a biosensor that combines the construction of a three-dimensional nanocomposite with electrochemical methods for the detection of viruses in plants. This is the first report, where carbon nanotubes are used as a conductive frame to anchor highly electrolytic agglomerates of copper nanoparticles to detect agroviruses. Morphological analysis of nanocomposite revealed the presence of carbon nanotubes having a diameter of 50-100nm with copper nanoparticles of 20-100nm, attached in the form of bunches. This material was applied to assess the infection caused by geminiviruses which are a major threat to the cotton plants in Asian and African countries. The hybridization events were studied by monitoring differential pulse voltammetry signals using methylene blue as a redox indicator. In the presence of target DNA, sensor signals decreased from 7×10-4 to 1×10-4Ampere. The probe exhibited 97.14% selectivity and the detection limit was found to be 0.01ngμL-1. The developed biosenso...

The plant-specific gibberellic acid stimulated Arabidopsis (GASA) gene family is critical for plant development. However, little is known about these genes, particularly in fruit tree species. We identified 15 putative Arabidopsis thaliana GASA (AtGASA) and 26 apple GASA (MdGASA) genes. The identified genes were then characterized (e.g., chromosomal location, structure, and evolutionary relationships). All of the identified A. thaliana and apple GASA proteins included a conserved GASA domain and exhibited similar characteristics. Specifically, the MdGASA expression levels in various tissues and organs were analyzed based on an online gene expression profile and by qRT-PCR. These genes were more highly expressed in the leaves, buds, and fruits compared with the seeds, roots, and seedlings. MdGASA genes were also responsive to gibberellic acid (GA3) and abscisic acid treatments. Additionally, transcriptome sequencing results revealed seven potential flowering-related MdGASA genes. The emergence of nanotechnology has opened new horizons for constructing efficient recognition interfaces. This is the first report where the potential of a multiwalled carbon nanotube based zinc nanocomposite (MWCNTs-Zn NPs) investigated for the detection of an agricultural pathogen i.e. Chili leaf curl betasatellite (ChLCB). Atomic force microscope analyses revealed the presence of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) having a diameter of 50-100nm with zinc nanoparticles (Zn-NPs) of 25-500nm. In this system, these bunches of Zn-NPs anchored along the whole lengths of MWCNTs were used for the immobilization of probe DNA strands. The electrochemical performance of DNA biosensor was assessed in the absence and presence of the complementary DNA during cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry scans. Target binding events occurring on the interface surface patterned with single-stranded DNA was quantitatively translated into electrochemical signals due to hybridization process. In the presence of complementary target DNA, as the result of duplex formation, there was a decrease in the peak current from 1.89×10(-04) to 5.84×10(-05)A. The specificity of this electrochemical DNA biosensor was found to be three times as compared to non-complementary DNA. This material structuring technique can be extended to design interfaces for the recognition of the other plant viruses and biomolecules.

The genetic modifications through breeding of crop plants have long been used to improve the yield and quality. However, precise genome editing (GE) could be a very useful supplementary tool for improvement of crop plants by targeted genome modifications. Various GE techniques including ZFNs (zinc finger nucleases), TALENs (transcription activator-like effector nucleases), and most recently clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas9 (CRISPR-associated protein 9)-based approaches have been successfully employed for various crop plants including fruit trees. CRISPR/Cas9-based approaches hold great potential in GE due to their simplicity, competency, and versatility over other GE techniques. However, to the best of our knowledge no such genetic improvement has ever been developed in date palm-an important fruit crop in Oasis agriculture. The applications of CRISPR/Cas9 can be a challenging task in date palm GE due to its large and complex genome, high rate ...

Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is a genetic neurodevelopmental syndrome that has been studied intensively in order to understand relationships between the genetic microdeletion, brain development, cognitive function, and the emergence of psychiatric symptoms. White matter microstructural abnormalities identified using diffusion tensor imaging methods have been reported to affect a variety of neuroanatomical tracts in 22q11.2DS. In the present study, we sought to combine two discovery-based approaches: (1) white matter query language was used to parcellate the brain's white matter into tracts connecting pairs of 34, bilateral cortical regions and (2) the diffusion imaging characteristics of the resulting tracts were analyzed using a machine-learning method called support vector machine in order to optimize the selection of a set of imaging features that maximally discriminated 22q11.2DS and comparison subjects. With this unique approach, we both confirmed previo...

Nanotechnology holds great promise for the fabrication of versatile materials that can be used as sensor platforms for the highly selective detection of analytes. In this research article we report a new nanohybrid material, where 3D imprinted nanostructures are constructed. First, copper nanoparticles are deposited on carbon nanotubes and then a hybrid structure is formed by coating molecularly imprinted polymer on 3D CNTs@Cu NPs; and a layer by layer assembly is achieved. SEM and AFM revealed the presence of Cu NPs (100-500nm) anchored along the whole length of CNTs, topped with imprinted layer. This material was applied to fabricate an electrochemical sensor to monitor a model veterinary drug, chloramphenicol. The high electron transfer ability and conductivity of the prepared material produced sensitive response, whereas, molecular imprinting produces selectivity towards drug detection. The sensor responses were found concentration dependent and the detection limit was calculate...

In the past few years, there has been increased recognition that children, who have faced traumatic incidences, can develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), just like in adults. We present a case of PTSD in a 6-year-old child who endured three surgical procedures because he was suffering from a congenital cranial stenosis (Pfeiffer) syndrome. Because of repetitive painful episodes, resulting from the syndrome, and then post-surgical complications, the child developed behavioral outbursts, hypervigilence, concentration problems, and irritability. In the past, the child was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in the realm of his behavioral complaints, and he was already on stimulant medications for last one year. But there was no remarkable effect of pharmacotherapy on child's behavior despite increasing dosages. Ultimately the child's medical and psychiatric history was reviewed and a diagnosis of pediatric PTSD was made. Stimulant medications...

Backgorund: The quinoline ring system is one of the most commonly encountered heterocycles in medicinal chemistry, due to the pharmaceutical and medicinal uses of derivatives containing this ring. These quinoline-based compounds have remarkable biological activity, as they are employed as antimalarial, antibacterial, antifungal, and antitumor agents. The quinoline nucleus can be synthesized by various traditional methods such as the Skraup reaction, Friedlaender synthesis, Combes quinoline synthesis, Larock quinoline synthesis, among others. The aim of the present work is to synthesize a number of new arylated quninolines having significant antinoceciptive effect through the Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reaction using 3-bromoquinoline as starting material. A number of new new quinoline derivatives has been synthesized. Structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by means of IR, NMR, and mass spectrometry, and by elemental analysis. In addition, the molecular struct...

Cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD), the most complex disease of cotton, is a major limiting biotic factor to worldwide cotton productivity. Several whitefly-transmitted monopartite begomoviruses causing CLCuD have been characterized and designated as CLCuD-associated begomoviruses. Despite of being reported over 100 years ago in Africa, CLCuD became economically pandemic causing massive losses to cotton production in Pakistan and India during past couple of decades. In Asia, cotton has faced two major epidemics during this period viz. "Multan epidemic" and "Burewala epidemic." The "Multan epidemic" era was 1988-1999 after which the virus remained calm until 2002 when "Burewala epidemic" broke into the cotton fields in Indo-Pak subcontinent, till 2013-2014. However, both the epidemics were…

Bermuda grass samples were examined by transmission electron microscopy and 28-30 nm spherical virus particles were observed. Total RNA from these plants was subjected to high-throughput sequencing (HTS). The nearly full genome sequence of a panicovirus was identified from one HTS scaffold. Sanger sequencing was used to confirm the HTS results and complete the genome sequence of 4404 nt. This virus was provisionally named Bermuda grass latent virus (BGLV). Its predicted open reading frames follow the typical arrangement of the genus Panicovirus. Based on sequence comparisons and phylogenetic analyses BGLV differs from other viruses and therefore taxonomically it is a new member of the genus Panicovirus, family Tombusviridae.

A rapid colorimetric method for detection of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) in various biological samples is developed. The o-cresol test for acetaminophen detection has been modified to detect PPD in blood, urine, gastric contents, and liver. After precipitating protein with trichloroacetic acid solution (2 mL, 10% w/v), biological specimens were required to convert PPD metabolites to PPD by acid hydrolysis. Finally, o-cresol solution (1 mL, 1% w/v), hydrogen peroxide (200 μL, 3%v/v), and concentrated ammonium hydroxide (0.5 mL) were added in the biological samples. The presence of PPD was indicated by formation of violet color which was turned to bluish green color within 10-15 min. The limit of detection was found to be 2 mg/L in blood, urine, and gastric contents and 2 mg/Kg in liver. This method is also free from any potential interference by p-aminophenol, acetaminophen, and other amine drugs under test conditions. This method was successfully employed to thirteen fatal cases of PPD...

Genome-wide expression studies of samples derived from individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their unaffected siblings have been widely used to shed light on transcriptomic differences associated with this condition. Females have historically been under-represented in ASD genomic studies. Emerging evidence from studies of structural genetic variants and peripheral biomarkers suggest that sex-differences may exist in the biological correlates of ASD. Relatively few studies have explicitly examined whether sex-differences exist in the transcriptomic signature of ASD. The present study quantified genome-wide expression values by performing RNA sequencing on transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines and identified transcripts differentially expressed between same-sex, proximal-aged sibling pairs. We found that performing separate analyses for each sex improved our ability to detect ASD-related transcriptomic differences; we observed a larger number of dysregulated genes within...

A dead body of middle aged man was exhumed from 6.5month earth-grave. Autopsy findings were non-specific as the body was completely putrefied. Deceased's scalp hair and kidney was sent for toxicological analysis. Hair sample (50mg) was incubated with 1M NaOH (2ml). Chloroquine was detected in hair and kidney during basic drug screen performed on GC/MS. For confirmation and quantitation, chloroquine was extracted using Hypersep verify CX SPE cartridges while mass detector was operated in SIM mode using the ions of m/z 245.0, 290.1, 319.0 for chloroquine while ions of m/z 260 and 455 were monitored for nalorphine (internal standard). Chloroquine was present in high concentration in hair (211ng/mg) as well as in kidney (37.3mg/kg). Moreover, chloroquine was not detected in the wash solvents, suggesting ingestion of the drug rather than an external contamination of hair. These findings strongly suggested the acute exposure of higher doses of chloroquine to the deceased before death.

Macromolecular prodrugs (MPDs) of moxifloxacin were fabricated based on hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) and hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC). UV/Vis spectrophotometry was employed to determine covalently loaded drug content (DC) of each conjugate. The degree of substitution (DS) of moxifloxacin attained ranged from 0.27 to 0.38 (HPC) and 0.19 to 0.26 (HEC) per anhydroglucose unit (AGU), respectively. Transmission electron microscopic analyses showed that HPC-moxifloxacin conjugates self-assembled into nanowires of ∼30nm diameters while HEC-moxifloxacin conjugates self-assembled into nanoparticles of 150-350nm. In vitro drug release studies revealed that 15 and 49% moxifloxacin release occurred from the HPC-moxifloxacin conjugate after 6h at pH 1.2 and 7.4, respectively. Similarly, moxifloxacin release from HEC-moxifloxacin conjugates was 15 and 39% at pH 1.2 and 7.4, respectively. Bioavailability and pharmacokinetic studies in rabbits showed that both HPC- and HEC-conjugates exhibited significantly enhanced moxifloxacin plasma half-life, over 24h, confirming sustained release and enhanced bioavailability (AUC 2.0-2.1 times higher) of moxifloxacin.

Fingermarks are one of the most useful forms of evidence in identification and can provide generalized proof of identity in crime investigation. They are developed using various conventional powders. The novel nanopowder ZnO-SiO2 was synthesized via the conventional heating method and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, transmission electron microscope (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The mean particle size of ZnO-SiO2 nanopowder calculated through TEM was 32.9 nm. The development of fingermarks was carried out by powder dusting and small particle reagent (SPR) methods. Powder dusting method was used for the development of latent fingermarks on various dry, nonporous, and semi-porous surfaces. The SPR method was also applied to wet nonporous surface. The developed latent fingermarks using ZnO-SiO2 nanopowder were found to have excellent quality with very clear third-level ridg...

The title compound, C9H9N3O2S, is close to planar with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.032 Å. An intramolecular N—H...N hydrogen bond closes anS(5) ring. In the crystal, molecules are connected into inversion dimers of theR22(8) type by pairs of O—H...O interactions. The dimers are further connected by pairs of N—H...S interactions, which also completeR22(8) ring motifs. The chains of dimers are cross-linked by N—H...O bonds and henceR42(28) rings are completed. Taken together, these interactions lead to infinite sheets propagating in the (122) plane.

We introduce a new model named the Kumaraswamy Pareto IV distribution which extends the Pareto and Pareto IV distributions. The density function is very flexible and can be left-skewed, right-skewed and symmetrical shapes. It has increasing, decreasing, upside-down bathtub, bathtub, J and reversed-J shaped hazard rate shapes. Various structural properties are derived including explicit expressions for the quantile function, ordinary and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, probability weighted moments and generating function. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The R\'{e}nyi and $q$ entropies are also obtained. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. Ni@Fe2O3 heterodimer nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by thermal decomposition of organometallic reactants. After functionalization, these Ni@Fe2O3 heterodimers become water soluble. The pristine heterodimeric NPs were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements. A special advantage of the heterodimers lies in the fact that the nanodomains of different composition can be used as catalysts for the removal of environmental hazardous halogenated pollutants

Culex quinquefasciatus cause severe biting nuisance and responsible for the spread of dreadful diseases among human beings. Biological researchers are trying to introduce eco-friendly products for the control of mosquitoes. The use of botanical pesticides has become very popular throughout the world as an alternative tool for the mosquito control. Present study deals with latex produced by the green parts of the Calotropis procera (milk weed) and aims to evaluate its toxic effects upon the mortality of C. quinquifasciatus larvae. Three concentrations (i.e., 0.5%, 0.25% and 0.1%) were tested against the larvae. There was significantly higher mortality in the treated group compared to the control group. The whole latex showed higher larval mortality for all concentrations at 24 h in lesser time compared to the rubber free latex. The percentage mortality was increased with increasing latex concentrations, indicating a direct relationship between the dose and percent mortality. Although...

A field study was conducted to compare the formationand bacterial communities of rhizosheaths of wheat grown under wheat-cotton and wheat-rice rotation and to study the effects of bacterial inoculation on plant growth. Inoculation of Azospirillum sp. WS-1 and Bacillus sp. T-34 to wheat plants increased root length, root and shoot dry weight and dry weight of rhizosheathsoil when compared to non-inoculated control plants, and under both crop rotations. Comparing both crop rotations, root length, root and shoot dry weight and dry weight of soil attached with roots were higher under wheat-cotton rotation. Organic acids (citric acid, malic acid, acetic acid and oxalic acid) were detected in rhizosheaths from both rotations, with malic acid being most abundant with 24.8±2 and 21.3±1.5 μg g-1 dry soil in wheat-cotton and wheat-rice rotation, respectively. Two sugars (sucrose, glucose) were detected in wheat rhizosheath under both rotations, with highest concentrations of sucrose (4.08±0.5...

The art of parameter(s) induction to the baseline distribution has received a great deal of attention in recent years. The induction of one or more additional shape parameter(s) to the baseline distribution makes the distribution more flexible especially for studying the tail properties. This parameter(s) induction also proved helpful in improving the goodness-of-fit of the proposed generalized family of distributions. There exist many generalized (or generated) G families of continuous univariate distributions since 1985. In this paper, the well-established and widely-accepted G families of distributions like the exponentiated family, Marshall-Olkin extended family, beta-generated family, McDonald-generalized family, Kumaraswamy-generalized family and exponentiated generalized family are discussed. We provide lists of contributed literature on these well-established G families of distributions. Some extended forms of the Marshall-Olkin extended family and Kumaraswamy-generalized fa...

Urease is an important enzyme which breaks urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide during metabolic processes. However, an elevated activity of urease causes various complications of clinical importance. The inhibition of urease activity with small molecules as inhibitors is an effective strategy for therapeutic intervention. Herein, we have synthesized a series of 19 benzofurane linked N-phenyl semithiocarbazones (3a-3s). All the compounds were screened for enzyme inhibitor activity against Jack bean urease. The synthesized N-phenyl thiosemicarbazones had varying activity levels with IC50 values between 0.077±0.001 and 24.04±0.14μM compared to standard inhibitor, thiourea (IC50=21±0.11μM). The activities of these compounds may be due to their close resemblance of thiourea. A docking study with Jack bean urease (PDB ID: 4H9M) revealed possible binding modes of N-phenyl thiosemicarbazones.
