Liquid crystalline main-chain polymers based on a repeat hexaalkoxytriphenylene moiety have previ... more Liquid crystalline main-chain polymers based on a repeat hexaalkoxytriphenylene moiety have previously been made by the reaction of dihydroxytetraalkoxytriphenylenes with α,ω-dibromoalkanes catalysed by caesium carbonate in N-methyl pyrrolidone. We now show that the molecular weights of these polymers can be increased by adding ˜5 wt% of a tribromide (a 1,3,5-trialkoxybenzene or trialkoxymethylbenzene with three ω-bromoalkyl substituents) to the reaction mixture.
