A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result. Monitoring and evaluation is a key component in project management. The value for monitoring and evaluation is to promote and enhancing successful performance of government sponsored programs. The basic goal of monitoring and evaluation is to periodically track implementation, efficiency and project effectiveness increasing the value and interest to beneficiaries. Monitoring and evaluation system is designed within the organization, which includes indicators, methods, and procedures that can be used to determine whether a project was carried out according to plan and achieved the desired results. Projects have to be completed as expected and to the stakeholders satisfaction and eventually be sustainable. The importance of monitoring and evaluation is to enhance the suc...

In order to combat the scourge, the government of Kenya, among other initiatives, has tried to encourage her citizens to know their status through voluntary HIV/AIDs counseling and testing (HTC).Despite all these efforts the uptake of HTC has been reported to be as low as 33.9%, with urban dwellers leading the uptake list. Narok North is a rural area situated in Rift Valley Province of Kenya and is characterized by low numbers of health facilitates and poor infrastructures. The purpose of the study was to investigate the determinants of the uptake of HIV Testing and Counseling services in Narok North district-Kenya. Demographic characteristics of household,socio-economic factors, and distance to HTC centers were some of the indicators selected for investigation. Researcher and educationists attribute this to non application of monitoring and evaluation procedures in schools and final shortage of its provisions for quality education in Kenya in the 21 st century. In countries where education subsidy had been introduced, complains of its ineffectiveness is overwhelming and suggestions is that only monitoring and evaluation procedures in institutions can save the situation. The introduction of quality assurance and standards department in the ministry of education science and technology was seen as a way out in solving such problems but not much has been achieved. School administration through staff meeting, supervision and general assembly meetings has helped to monitor and evaluate effective utilization of education subsidy but 100% target is yet be attained. Based on the above the purpose of the study ...

These include the Traffic Act Cap 403 of 2013 and the subsequent amendment of 2014. However, enforcement of such legislations have been found to be inadequate partly explaining the increasing road traffic accidents. The most vulnerable groups to the accidents have turned out to be the pedestrians. Consequently, the study sought to investigate how enforcement of traffic safety laws influenced implementation of pedestrian safety rules in the City of Kisumu. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and sampled 384 road users from a population of 409,928 residents of Kisumu City using Krejcie and Morgan table. The study sample was distributed to include 200 pedestrians, 100 drivers and 84 key informants including engineers, traffic law enforcement officers, children’s park managers and parents. The researcher used convenience sampling to select the roads, and the pedestrians, random sampling to select the ...

The study used a descriptive survey design with a sample of 370 households obtained through random sampling and 15 key informants selected purposively who were administered with questionnaires and interviewed respectively. The questionnaire was tested for reliability using Cronbach alpha giving 0.929 as the alpha co-efficient thus considered reliable. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics: frequency, percentages, means and standard deviation as well as regression analysis as inferential statistics. The study found that there is a statistically significant relationship between Community participation in Management of Watershed and household livelihood (r = 0.653; p = 0.000). Further, the study established the Community Participation in Management of Watershed explains up to 42.7% (R 2 = 0.427) of variance in household livelihood for residents of flooding areas. The study concludes that communities should be encouraged to take part in management of watershed as flood mitigation strategy to improve their standard of living and mitigate the effects of floods.

The analysis included the following tests: means, frequencies and standard deviations for descriptive analysis while inferential statistics was conducted by the use of correlations, and linear regression. The study had the following findings: Sustainability of agricultural projects had a general mean (GM) of 24.7080 and a general (SD) of 4.30998 showing that agricultural projects were not sustained. Small standard deviation showed a consensus among participants on this issue. For routine program monitoring, the general mean score for all items was 31.2336 with a general standard deviation of 4.82984. The implication of this mean score and standard deviation in respect to the study is that there was general agreement in opinion among participants that organizations utilized monitoring and evaluation system in terms of routine program monitoring. Nevertheless, empirical literature insinuates that sustainability of development projects is seldom realized. Perhaps because the sustainability drivers are not well articulated at the project design stage making sustainability uncertain. This paper calls for a decisive paradigm shift in dairy goat project designs for sustainability. The paper is based on a study conducted in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, to investigate the influence of project design factors on the sustainability of dairy goat projects. Design factors considered for this study are the Project Beneficiary Selection Process, Community Capacity, Institutional Linkages and Project Infrastructure. The study was anchored on the structural-functional theory, diffusion of innovations theory and collective action theory. The sample size was 196 respondents sampled using sequential and stratified random sa...
