Prevalence of UI is also higher in institutionalised (living in care homes) older adults with dementia than in those living at home. It is a significant cause of morbidity, prolonged hospital stay, increased risk of institutionalisation, and high financial burden. There are multiple causes of UI in older adults with dementia including reversible and established causes. There should be thorough history, physical examination, and appropriate investigations to determine the cause of UI for individual person. Multidisciplinary team approach is useful in providing holistic care and shared decision making.
