Main activities are focused on the education of young generations, who should become from their early age naturally familiar with EO/GIS tools and data in order to be eager to use them later in their own research or in their profession, whenever making use of geoinformation. Capacity building activities have been oriented on the cooperation with the potential users of EO data and technologies as well, e.g. institutions of nature protection, public administration services. Several joint quick-win projects have been carried out for implementing EO into the decision-making processes at these institutions. Quick-win projects have been based on the close cooperation between EO experts and public servants in the Czech Republic.

The major focus is given on theoretical and methodological background of the process of formation of regional identity and identity of regions in the areas with considerable concentration of settlements and municipalities with prevailing tourist function. It deals with identification of the inner development potential of localities and regions from socioeconomic and sociocultural views. Both identity of regions (their outer and inner image) and appurtenance of residents and tourists (second home owners) with the territory is emphasized. The key objective is to support and explain possible behavioral approaches in the research of the impact of second housing and tourism activities in the forming of regional identity and identity of the regions.

The elementary school network has been changing, in accordance with general changes in the geographical organization of society and school catchment areas have been expanding due to improved transportation possibilities. The second part of the article addresses the impact of changes in elementary school accessibility on life in rural peripheral regions, utilizing in-depth interviews with inhabitants from six case study localities, where local schools were closed, during the observed period. The article introduces a classification of forms of disadvantage, affecting regions and localities and resulting from spatial inequalities in the distribution of elementary schools.
