Conocida por sus canales o por su designación novohispana de acequias, la imagen de ciudad acuáti... more Conocida por sus canales o por su designación novohispana de acequias, la imagen de ciudad acuática de la Ciudad de México fue ampliamente difundida en el mundo. Tal pareciera que aquellas referencias románticas de la ciudad, hubieran quedado sólo en las líneas escritas por los cronistas. Sin embargo, al analizar planos arquitectónicos y catastrales actuales, se pueden vislumbrar vestigios de este pasado lacustre. A través de esta investigación se realiza, mediante el análisis de planos del siglo XVIII, una identificación de las acequias existentes en la Ciudad de México durante este período, así como su trayectoria en un plano actual, y realizando, a la vez, un análisis de su influencia en la arquitectura habitacional, determinando las características particulares de las viviendas que se encuentran en el trayecto de las acequias, mediante una clasificación de casas con acequia, dependiendo el nivel de relación entre estos dos géneros constructivos.

Un libro cuyo objetivo es tratar de explicar desde tres perspectivas diferentes, cómo el idealismo influyó en la forma de construirse México durante los primeros años de la era virreinal: el Virreinato de la Nueva España (VNE) del siglo xvi. Es una obra que analiza este problema desde diferentes facetas disciplinares: la historia, la sociedad, el urbanismo histórico, la arquitectura, la construcción y los usos y costumbres de la época. El libro está compuesto por tres capítulos. En el capítulo uno, “Espacio libre y utopía”, se explica la utilidad del espacio abierto como una herramienta para llevar a cabo las utopías. El espacio abierto permite las actividades de evangelización del Virreinato de la Nueva España. Los vestigios de esa utopía, permanecen inherentes en las ciudades, pueblos y villas que aún existen. Para explicar este hecho, se desarrolla un análisis de los tres tipos de espacios abiertos: el atrio, las plazas y las huertas. El capítulo dos, “México: la ciudad virreinal y sus templos como símbolos de la utopía cristiana”, tiene por objetivo analizar el desarrollo urbano a partir de los edificios religiosos de la capital del VNE. La premisa es que el caso de la utopía novohispana, tenía una perspectiva religiosa que se manifiesta en las formas arquitectónicas y urbanas. El proyecto arquitectónico utopista inició con la expansión del catolicismo, que difundía el evangelio y materializaba los dogmas en el territorio. El capítulo tres, “Las utopías constructivas en el virreinato de la Nueva España”, tiene el objetivo de explicar, cómo los ideales utópicos se manifestaron en las formas de construir, considerando la seguridad constructiva de los edificios en el VNE.
