Traditional plants in forest gardens of West Kutai, Indonesia: Production and financial sustainability. Biodiversitas 18: 1207-1217. Our research on the first generation forest gardens (munaan) in West Kutai District, Indonesia, aimed (i) investigating the cultivation and the financial profit of various plants grown by the residents in the first generation forest gardens (munaan); (ii) finding out the financial feasibility level of the first generation forest gardens (munaan) cultivation by the residents. The subject of this research included farmers or people who cultivated the old/ first generation forest gardens as well as several plant commodities namely durian (Durio zibethinus), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), cempedak (Artocarpus champeden), langsat (Lansium domesticum), ihau (Dimocarpus didyma) (i.e. native Borneo longan), meranti (Shorea sp.) and kapur (Dryobalanops aromatica) trees. Carbon sequestration and growth of Anthocephalus cadamba plantation in North Kalimantan, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 18: 1385-1393. Forest plantation of Jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba) plays many important roles for the primary source of timber production and also the carbon absorption for environmental amelioration. The growth of A. cadamba trees was measured using the formulas of MAI (Mean Annual Increment) and PAI (Periodic Annual Increment) as the basis of the increment measurement, while the analysis of biomass and carbon with simple linear regression (y = a + bx) was used, with the coefficient of R2 = 0.90. The annual increment of A. cadamba trees reached its maximum point or the intersection between MAI and PAI at the age of 8 years, showing the maximum production of A. cadamba trees. Forest plantation of A. cadamba produced biomass and carbon sequestration of 81.90 ton ha-1 and 39.31 ton ha-1, respectively a...

Research methods in the form of quantitative and qualitative data accompanied by primary data and secondary data. Data were collected using surveys, questionnaires, literature, documentation and SWOT. Outcome this research showed that transactional interest dominates respondents' answers regarding ecotourism interests in the Mentawir Village. SWOT analysis shows that ecotourism activities in Mentawir Village are in quadrant I (Aggressive Strategy). Alternative activities by building partnerships between the community and stakeholders to increase ecotourism activities in the Mentawir Village; community participation in activities from planning to evaluation and monitoring; increasing the quality of products that are packaged creatively and varied by involving local communities and increasing the empowerment of tourism-a...

This research conducted in Bukit Raya Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Method of this research conducted by using theory of production, scientific principles to calculate the production of vanilla and the increment of agar wood by measuring the diameter and the highest of agar wood. To find out the financial worthiness by using Pay Back Period (PP), Net Present Value (NPV), Net benefit cost ratio (Net B/C) and Internal Rate of return (IRR). Results showed that the maximum production of vanilla at the age of 9 years old with a total production was 378 kg/ha, it can be harvested at the age 3 to 11 years while the increment of agar wood can be inoculated at the age 4-5 years with the age of inoculation during 2 years and gubal Agar wood can be harvested at t...

Jabon is one type of fast growing plant that is expected to meet national wood demand because the type jabon has a fast growing nature and quality of wood is relatively the same as sengon. Some of the advantages of jabon are: rapid growth, adaptability to various places of growth, silvicultural treatment is relatively easy, relatively resistant to pests and diseases. The study was conducted for the purpose of knowing roundwood production and land expected value of Jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba) in PT Intraca Hutani Lestari. This research was conducted at PT Intraca Hutani Lestari in Tana Tidung, North Kalimantan for 3 months effective with several stages of field orientation, preparation of research plan, literature study, data collection, data simulation and writing of research result. Analysis of the data used by using the formula of volume, increment and value of land expect...

Proses pembuatan sirup pedada ( S. caseolaris L) meliputi persiapan alat dan bahan, pencucian buah pedada, penghancuran/penumbukan, pengambilan sari buah pedada, pemasaka...

Financial analysis of dipterocarp log production and rubber production in the forest and land rehabilitation program of Sekolaq Muliaq, West Kutai District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 19: 707-716. The Dayak community of East Kalimantan in the last decade has begun to develop production systems that integrate forest timber tree species into plantation commodity enterprises. They have become aware that the natural forest species of their surroundings such as Meranti (Shorea sp.) and Kapur (Dryobalanops aromatica) are often easier to exploit economically, and represent potentially cheaper investments, than are introduced plantation crops such as rubber (Hevea brasiliensis). This is because the price of rubber latex has decreased over the years and has ceased to give a financial return commensurate with the investment required to develop rubber as a monocrop. The research described in this paper aimed to evaluate the ...

Since the natural products of the mangrove forest, such as wood and seafood, are not able to meet the economic needs of the local community, some areas have been converted into brackish water ponds with traditional aquaculture systems. The growth of brackish water ponds over the last five decades has been identified as the main cause of ecosystem destruction. However, the mangrove ecosystem has been restored naturally through tidal action and seeds falling from mangrove trees. Methods: This study focused on the mangrove tree species Rhizophora apiculata, with ages ranging from 3 to 40 years. Initially, the study site (area, 1 ha) was plotted. The study sample size included 30% of the local population, chosen by systematic random sampling. The data collection was undertaken as follows: 1) measurement of the diameter and height of mangrove tr...
