Open science is considered a new science paradigm to make research accessible, accountable, and effective. Open science is already changing the academic profession starting from micro-practices to professional relations with epistemic communities and stakeholders, with implications that we are not yet able to predict. The article delves first into literature and official documentation to unfold the discursive regimes which sustain the spread of open science. A specific focus is then devoted to the professional transition, highlighting the role of funding organizations in setting the new science environment and the subjective experience of academics. The article is completed by a case study in the field of Research Data Management where the misalignment among incumbent/changing processes can be more apparent. Finally, a research agenda that focuses on how academic micro-practices are affecting organizations and science structures is proposed. This article aims at beginning to plow th...

Universities have been gaining ground in terms of t echnological and pedagogic innovation. They are now offering additional servic es in the form of education programs and career training designed to respond to society and market demand for continuous education. New technologies are certainly a formidable stimulu s of innovation, a strategic tool for corporate communication and marketing for local universities. They are also the main context in which initiatives of experimenting educational environments, sharing resources, networking research communities are post ed with growing consequences both in terms of image and performance. It is there fore clear that the opening of cultural deposits of the universities, the online p ublication of research archives managed by libraries and academic institutions, and the adoption of open access on a wider scale are an integral part of a more complex strategy to achieve quality and consensus. Therefore, subscription to the Open Educational Res ...

Originated to help academic institutions innovate pedagogical models, MOOCs are taking different routes, some of them marked by public policies, others by market strategies. Questioning the MOOC phenomenon according only to pedagogies and learning theories means, however, underestimating their impact on the evolution of educational systems. This article intends to define a research agenda into the social impact of MOOCs, in order to reflect on changes in educational policies, on academic culture, and on learning measurement. For this reason we suggest focusing attention on three features of MOOC phenomenology: MOOCs as a social movement - an active policy initiative to promote greater democratization of education; MOOCs as a medium and a cultural artifact (mediated texts, videos, interface, platform functionalities) able to convey learning to distant learners; and, lastly, MOOCs as a measurement - in other words as instrumentation (i.e. learning statements, analytics, algorithms, vi...

This paper proposes an institutional analysis of the Italian Parliament aimed at exploring if and how its functions are changing as a consequence of the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies in the decisional process. Shifting from a micro perspective (how MPs use the Internet) to a macro perspective (what is the impact of new technologies on the Parliament considered as a collective body), this paper focuses on governance, communication processes and IT strategies both in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Italian Republic. In its exploratory stage, the analysis is aimed at outlining the basic terrain for further in-depth and focused research projects. The Institutional Design Sixty years after the constitution is approval despite continuous calls for institutional reforms by political and academic domains the Italian Parliament still features a perfectly symmetric structure in both Houses: the Chamber of Deputies (630 members) and the Senate of the ...

This paper originates from the need to review–under a critical perspective–the modern democratic theory attempts to address the complex and ambivalent relationship between the new ICTs and the decision-making process. Much of this literature centers its attention on the analysis of deliberative democracy models which, taking advantage of focus group-like techniques, gradually were able to define the development setting for a special electronic artefact: the test tube edemocracy. Such models, using structured strategies and ...
