This manuscript aims to identify the knowledge and awareness of the rural community in Kg Tok Uban, Pasir Mas, Kelantan about solid waste disposal. Besides that, the socio-demographic factors that influence the knowledge and awareness of respondents have also been explored. The data was collected using an online survey questionnaire. A total of 232 respondents participated in this study through the convenience sampling method. The findings indicated that most respondents have good knowledge of proper solid waste disposal. Besides that, this study also revealed that most respondents have a good awareness of the impact of improper solid waste disposal. However, this study found that the respondents have moderate solid waste disposal practices. Even though people have good awareness and knowledge, it doesn’t lead them to good practices in solid waste disposal. Different gender, age, and income of respondents are significantly influence the knowledge and awareness of respondents. The findings of this study are significant for local governments to strive toward effective solid waste management in rural areas.

Unfortunately, the recycling practices among the B40 community in urban areas of Kelantan are low compared to other states. Therefore, this study focused on identifying the recyclables generated by the B40 community and examined their knowledge and awareness level of recycling practices. The total number of respondents who participated in this study was 278. This study revealed that food waste is the most solid waste generated by the B40 community from PPR Kota Bharu. Moreover, this study also found that the B40 community’s knowledge and awareness about recycling are good. However, this study has statistically proved that the knowledge level has a weak relationship and is not significant with the recycling practices among the B40 community (r=0.111, p=0.065). Besides that, this study found a significant weak association between recycling awareness and recycling practice among the B40 community (r=0.153, p=0.012). The findings of this study are important to local authorities to encourage recycling practices among the B40 community in PPR Kota Bharu and to make sure that the recyclable items are appropriately managed towards environmental sustainability.

Payment default is one of a crucial issue that refers to the situation whereby the claimant claims the amount of payment, but they are not being paid in a whole or in part within a specific time (including under payment, delayed payment, and non-payment). In this case, majority of the contractor would be the direct and enormously affected party, however, this area is still under discovered empirically. This research aims to identify factors significantly contributing to the payment default, specifically in private construction projects. Survey was used in this research through questionnaire surveys. The targeted respondents were G7 contractors who have been involved in private projects, mainly in residential projects. The findings address that factor of delay in certification or poor documentation rated the highest average mean value. Meanwhile, the CIDB Stan...

Rapid continual development of construction industry has produced large volumes of construction w... more Rapid continual development of construction industry has produced large volumes of construction waste. It is filling up the landfill. Disposal of construction waste is an easy and inexpensive approach compares to any 3R practice. In long term, landfills will not be able to accommodate the large volumes of construction waste which reduces the lifetime of landfill. It also negatively affects the environment, human health and natural resources. Reducing construction wastes through 3R practices is a way towards sustainable waste management. The aim of this paper is to study on current construction waste management situation and the importance of waste reduction through 3R in Malaysia, particularly in Penang. Research methodology consists of interview and observation. Semi-structure interview section was conducted with officers in charge the Jelutong Landfill and participant observation was carried out at Jelutong Landfill and Illegal dumping area in order to obtain the current construction waste management situation in Penang. The paper contains findings from the synthesis of literatures, interview and field observations. Based on the information obtained from observation, the quantity of construction waste sent to Jelutong Landfill is increasing and landfill condition is getting worse compared to previous years. Besides that, it has also been found that there exist some illegal dumping areas of construction waste in Penang. The result indicated the implementation of reducing construction wastes through 3R is still low in among contractors in Penang. Therefore, construction contractors should play important role in reducing construction waste through 3R practices. Implementation of top-down approach and good governance is necessary to improve the effectiveness of reducing construction waste through 3R practice towards sustainable waste management

This village will serve as a prism for exploring community perceptions and as a platform for asking a number of questions, including how the conversation programme works, what impacts urbanization has on traditional villages, how do communities survive, and what limitations does the current incentives policy have in meeting community needs. This research has employed a mixed method study, involving various data generation instruments including surveying, interviewing and observation. From this research, it has been found that the impacts of urbanization have altered community lifestyle and values. The authors have tried to illustrate the residents’ perception of the heritage i...

The rapid urbanization process in Malaysia has brought many peoples migrate to the urban areas. Reflecting from this phenomenon, Malaysia has experiencing a transition of solid waste management due to the rapid solid waste generation. In fact, there is a policy and legislation with regard to solid waste management has been introduced in Malaysia. Enactment of Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act (Act 672) has brought huge transformation in solid waste management in Malaysia. However, the policy implementation on solid waste management is looks like feeble and doubtful which not goes like its planning. Landfilling is still the main solid waste disposal approach and recycling rate among Malaysian is low at 5% which still left behind with compared to the neighbouring countries. The objective of this concept paper is to give an insight for developing countries like Malaysia towards effective policy implementation on solid waste management through a good governance practices. The issues and factors of ineffective policy implementation on solid waste in Malaysia will be discussed briefly.
