Linear patch arrays can be very useful where space is the matter of concern in one direction. Like planar array, linear arrays are also capable of providing high gain and directivity with beam scanning. The paper focuses on air borne applications. Proposed linear array are suitable due to its conformability and meeting the constraint of space for such applications. The design presented in this paper proposes to increase the gain and as well as bandwidth by keeping acceptable values of VSWR and return loss.

Antennas projecting out of high speed vehicles results in drag and high fuel consumption. Hence there is a necessity for antennas to be conformal to the shape of object such a part of high speed train, airplane or other vehicle. Generally it is common to find study of microstrip antenna conformal on cylindrical surface. This paper presents the design of an antenna that is conformal on a spherical surface viz. radome, an integral part of the aircraft structure and does not cause extra drag. Analysis of the results is based on simulation using CST microwave studio. The simulated result indicates that the design has good antenna characteristics.

Majority of real world shapes can be approximated as cylindrical surface or a cylindrical sector. For microstrip antenna applications one must consider this important perspective in the design and development of conformal antenna array. Antenna array to function as per design parameters, it is required to account for important aspects such as effects of mutual coupling between the antennas elements. Performance of conformal array antennas based on the array excitation, element pattern, and array shape among many other factors that must be known in order to determine its characteristics. Radiation pattern of the antenna array under the matched condition analysis is an important factor especially if the array is designed for scanning. To calculate the element patterns in the actual curved environment, the ideal approach is to include the effect of mutual coupling. To provide near accurate results, it may be worthwhile that we consider simple models that can in many cases are near accurate and easy to understand. These approaches are accurate as well as it serves the basic purpose of illustrating fundamental characteristics of the conformal antenna array. In this paper performance of rectangular microstrip antenna arrays conformal on cylindrical surface with effect of mutual coupling has been presented. Some of the calculations in the array designs are based on simple models.

A triple band notch MIMO/Diversity antenna using Inductance Boosted Compact Electromagnetic Band Gap (IB-CEBG) cells is presented in this paper. For obtaining compactness in the conventional EBG cell, spiral shaped defects are introduced. The proposed antenna obtains triple band notches in WiMAX (3.3–3.6 GHz), WLAN (5–6 GHz), and the X-band satellite communication (7.2–8.4 GHz) bands. IB-CEBG cells exhibits miniaturization of approximately 46% for WiMAX band, 50% for WLAN band and 48% for X-band Satellite communication band, compared to conventional EBG cells. To enhance the isolation among all four compact UWB monopoles, rectangular slots in the ground plane and parasitic decoupling arrangement are utilised. Further, a stepped structure with an angular separation of 90◦ is incorporated with individual monopoles to reduce mutual coupling effects. Stepped structure also helps in the better impedance matching by incrementing the path length. The results show that the magnitude of tran...

A dual band-notched MIMO/Diversity antenna is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna ensures notches in WiMAX band (3.3–3.6 GHz) besides WLAN band (5–6 GHz). Mushroom Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) arrangements are employed for discarding interfering frequencies. The procedure followed to attain notches is antenna shape independent with established formulas. The electromagnetic coupling among two narrowly set apart Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) monopoles is reduced by means of decoupling bands and slotted ground plane. Monopoles are 90° angularly parted with steps on the radiator. This aids to diminish mutual coupling and also adds in the direction of impedance matching by long current route. S
