a variety of challenging telecommunication topics ranging from background fields like signals, traffic, coding, communication basics up to large communication systems and networks, fixed, mobile and integrated, etc. Applications, services, system and network management issues also received significant attention. We are witnessing many technological paradigm shifts imposed by the complexity induced by the notions of fully shared resources, cooperative work, and resource availability. P2P, GRID, Clusters, Web Services, Delay Tolerant Networks, Service/Resource identification and localization illustrate aspects where some components and/or services expose features that are neither stable nor fully guaranteed. Examples of technologies exposing similar behavior are WiFi, WiMax, WideBand, UWB, ZigBee, MBWA and others. Management aspects related to autonomic and adaptive management includes the entire arsenal of self-ilities. Autonomic Computing, On-Demand Networks and Utility Computing to...

a variety of challenging telecommunication topics ranging from background fields like signals, traffic, coding, communication basics up to large communication systems and networks, fixed, mobile and integrated, etc. Applications, services, system and network management issues also received significant attention. The spectrum of 21st Century telecommunications is marked by the arrival of new business models, new platforms, new architectures and new customer profiles. Next generation networks, IP multimedia systems, IPTV, and converging network and services are new telecommunications paradigms. Technology achievements in terms of coexistence of IPv4 and IPv6, multiple access technologies, IP-MPLS network design driven methods, multicast and high speed require innovative approaches to design and develop large scale telecommunications networks. Mobile and wireless communications add profit to large spectrum of technologies and services. We witness the evolution 2G, 2.5G, 3G and beyond, ...

One of the main evolutions of the WCDMA standard is the high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) concept, which offers peak data rates exceeding 10 Mbps. A hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) plays an important role in HSDPA. In this paper the impact of the combining scheme in HARQ to the system performance is considered. A conventional maximal ratio combining (MRC) is not an optimal method of combining (re)transmissions for the HARQ under the condition of the imperfect channel estimation. A modified MRC method is proposed, which allows decreasing the impact of the errors in the channel estimates to the performance of HSDPA.

The D-TxAA scheme was adopted by 3 GPP as standard for HSDPA MIMO. However, the performance of this scheme significantly decreases under the conditions of fading channel due to loss of mutual orthogonality between streams in fading. In this paper the modification of the original D-TxAA scheme is proposed which allows to improve the performance in fading channel. This improvement was achieved by means of using the additional STTD encoding on top of D-TxAA scheme, which leads to some theoretical performance decrease in static channel. The modified scheme is proposed to be used as optional mode in MIMO HSDPA.

ABSTRACT We suggest some nontraditional approaches to coding in a network. We show that it is possible to apply coding not only to increase the reliability of the transmitted information, but also to improve important characteristics of a network, such as the mean message delay. Also, we may consider the encryption of messages just as a coding process at the presentation layer in the network. We can thus distinguish different coding processes at different network layers. In this case, we have to be concerned with the impact, on one layer, of coding at another layer. Thus, the problem of reconciliation of coding at neighbor network layers arises. We suggest some solutions to this problem.

ABSTRACT In this paper we consider transport coding in a network. The results obtained with this approach indicate, that coding in network helps not only to increase the reliability of the transmitted information, but also can be used to improve such important characteristic of a network, as the mean message delay. It is possible to use quite simple for implementation and having low complexity Tornado codes for transport coding.

The D-TxAA scheme was adopted by 3GPP as standard for HSDPA MIMO. The link adaptation in HSDPA is performed on base of channel quality indicator (CQI) reports, which are the quantized estimates of the received signal SINR. However, the method of the SINR estimation used in non-MIMO HSDPA is not possible to use directly for D-TxAA scheme. In this paper the method of SINR calculation for D-TxAA scheme is proposed.
