    The objective of this study is to provide selected case studies of public infrastructure projects in southeast Europe (SEE) and to draw conclusions and make recommendations on what type of infrastructure planning is needed, and what conditions need to be fulfilled to achieve socially, environmentally and economically sustainable infrastructure. The covered countries are from the Western Balkans: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and from the EU: Bulgaria and Slovenia.

    The analysis had the intention to give a general
    picture about public infrastructure projects in
    Macedonia which provides further opportunity
    to perform more concentrated analyzes on
    the identified problems. The final part of the
    study portrays the recommendations that
    state institutions and the IFI’s should take into
    consideration in order to realise better, safer,
    greener and more environmentally friendly public
    infrastructure projects. The recommendations are
    not final, but further additional analysis can be
    conducted on their basis or on the basis of each
    identified problem for each stakeholder separately.

    Energy poverty has challenged the already socially fragile Macedonia on its way to EU integration. This paper analyzes the state of energy poverty in Macedonia and the policies tackling it in order to draft policy recommendations for their improvement to the respective stakeholders. Tackling energy poverty is important in order to bring the country on a sustainable path.
