bringing innovation to the Stratonikeia’s cults.
Traces of new cults in the Khora of Stratonikeia
result from these three new epigraphical findings
unearthed during the excavations in Stratonikeia
under Prof. Dr. Bilal Söğüt. One of the inscriptions
is a gravestone found in Gymnasion. It is brought
from Stratonikeia’s necropolis for re-using as a
construction material. The latter is a dedicatory
inscription found in the Church at Erikli. The
magical gem was found while sifting the soil on East
Street.
The inscription no. 1 is a new attestation to the
masculine name Orpheus and a new family. The
inscription no. 2 uncovers a new cult of Zeus and his
new temenos. The inscribed magical gem no. 3
documents the god Iao and describes an icon of
Abrasax and seems to be connected with the two
inscriptions on the north inner wall of Bouleuterion.

Epigraphical Investigation of the Defensive Layout of Stratonikeia, 2023

The current paper presents an epigraphical view of the defence system of Stratonikeia in Karia and discusses this system. Stratonikeia is within the village of Eskihisar in the district of Yatağan, in the province of Muğla. The new village carrying the same name has been rebuilt several kilometers away. There are the walls of three Pyrgoi surrounded Stratonikeia, while the presence of a fourth Pyrgos is uncertain. The coal mining in Yatağan may have destroyed its remains. The citizens of Stratonikeia built the four city gates: the North Gate, a modern appellation, Mese Pyle (the Middle Gate), Tripylon, and Mylasike Pyle (the Mylasa Gate). The city might have been divided into three or into four zones for defence. The emblems of the zones represented the units of the city's army, with the Stratonicean Army comprising the Herakles, Rhopalon, Elephas, and Kapros units. Astragon and Tendeba were part of the defence system of Stratonikeia. Livius only attests to the castles in the Khora of Stratonikeia.

Social Sustainability and Re-functioning of Cultural Heritage: Seljuk Bath and Ali Aydın House, 2023

Functioning historical buildings by protecting them also increases circulation to those structures and ensures that they are handed down to the future. In this study, the social sustainability of the Seljuk Bath and Ali Aydın House, located in the ancient city of Stratonikeia, were examined. The tracing method, which is a qualitative research method, was used in the study. While ensuring the sustainability of the buildings, the issue was also considered together with the historical environment they are in and a performance evaluation was conducted within the context of the historical environment. Since the bath and residential structures are both in the ancient city and both have become original structures, this study contributes to the literature on holistic conservation and sustainability of historical buildings.

Durnagölü, N., Karia Stratonikeia Territorium'undan Bozukbağ Sağlık Evi Kalıntısı ve Buluntuları, 2023

The region stands out as one of the large and small rural settlements and cemetery areas between Stratonikeia and Lagina. As a result of the excavations carried out by Prof. Dr. Y. Boysal in 1969 in the area where there are natural agricultural terraces towards the eastern part, a necropolis plan, which is evaluated within the Early Iron Age layer, was unearthed. During the studies conducted by the directorate of Muğla Museum in 2019 the tombs belonging to the Late Geometric, Late Classical and Roman periods were found, the remains of a building that did not have a full plan at the foundation level were unearthed. The finds found near the corner of this building remains and at the upper level, proving the relationship of the settlement with health, the Asclepius statuette, medical instruments and offering objects consisting of anatomical body parts, constitute the most important group of finds showing the relationship between health and faith, and point to a cult activity. It is thought that a total of nearly a hundred finds, all of which came together as a coherent votive group in the same place, were gifts offered to thank or pray with gratitude after healing. The Bozukbağ Asklepius statuette, dated to the second half of the 2nd century AD and the first half of the 3rd century (150-250 BC), was introduced to the scientific world as a separate publication. The god Asklepius statuette, produced in small sizes as a votive statuette, is leaning on a staff with a snake on his right hand. Its iconographic counterparts belong to a local version of the "Eleusis" type. Especially the Asklepius statuette, figurine fragments and medical instruments point to the earliest finds of the building. The finds of 56 bronze coins and terracotta oil lamps, indicating that the building was used for a long period, were dated to the 3rd and 6th centuries AD. In this study, the building remains in question were evaluated together with the Asclepius statuette and other contextual finds, and it was emphasized that the building, which was in use until the 6th century AD, could have been used as a small clinic or a physician's house.
