Challenged by a variety of mega‐trends, including rising consumer expectations and expertise, revolutionary changes in technology, and shifting power in channels of distribution, product managers now face an environment much more demanding than that of the past. Examines the role of product managers of consumer goods in this new environment, within the context of a conceptual model developed to understand better the dynamics underlying their job performance and satisfaction. The model highlights the interactions among boundary spanning, information power and interfunctional coordination, and incorporates the concepts of strategic orientation, role conflict and role ambiguity. In all, 17 propositions are advanced for future empirical testing.

The survey-based study presents a group perception of the contributions made by this group of faculty members to higher education in the United States, and to their native homeland. Besides collecting demographic information and faculty perceptions in the areas of teaching, research, and service, the survey gathered comments on diverse topics such as political instability, corruption, brain drain, and the impact of 9/11 on their work. The survey results enable an improved assessment of the contributions to the American higher education made by international faculty, and improve our understanding of strategies to empower this enterprising group of academics to better serve their profession. The study also sheds light on how this segment of international professoriate have continued to stay involved with their native communities by giving back some of their expertise from a distance.

Adopting a pro-environmental stance is being driven by strategic choice, rather than by mere compliance. However, of late, environmental concern of business and marketing managers in the specific context of NAFTA has been found wanting. Furthermore, there is little research focus on the environmentally concerned beliefs and attitudes (ECBA) of potential business and marketing managers, namely business students. The purpose of this descriptive research is to conduct an investigation of ECBA of business students, in two NAFTA member countries, the U.S.A. and Mexico. A survey was conducted among business students at two business schools, one in the U.S.A. and the other in Mexico (n=435). Results support the hypothesis that ECBA are significantly lower among business students in the U.S.A. than in Mexico, on both the overall sca...

For the last few decades, these countries have eagerly sought to increase the inflow of foreign capital. Using the World Bank’s Enterprise Survey 2017 data, this study identifies political instability, poor infrastructure, and pervasive corruption as the three biggest obstacles that FOFs face in their business operations in these countries. The other obstacles include inadequately educated workforce, customs and trade regulations, crime, theft and disorder, tax administration, business licensing and permits, and access to finance. This study also finds that since 2007 the business environment for FOFs has improved remarkably in Bangladesh, improved slightly in India, improved modestly in Sri Lanka, but worsened noticeably in Pakistan. This study adds to our knowledge of factors that a...

It is not an accident that the BARS method has proved to be perennial and resilient in terms of survival over the last fifty years, and continues to sustain the interest of researchers and practitioners alike. Based on a synthesis of the existing literature, this paper explores the reasons underlying its resiliency. The paper provides a unique perspective by bringing together the more obvious factors and also unearthing rather implicit qualities, rarely emphasized elsewhere, which make BARS a perennial appraisal method. The implications of the findings (from motivational, equity, and utility perspectives) as well as challenges and future research needs are also discussed.

Several studies have found that corruption is festered by rent seeking activities in the recipient countries when aid-funded resources are transferred without accountability at the decision makers’ discretion. On the other hand, several studies have concluded that foreign aid helps curb corruption by improving the quality of governance. This study uses 1996-2013 annual data from 14 developing countries in South Asia and East Asia to analyze the impact of aid on corruption. Results estimated in this study suggest that foreign aid has helped lower corruption in the sample countries and the impact of multilateral aid on curbing corruption is stronger than that of bilateral aid. In addition, rule of law, political stability and accountability are found to be strong deterrents of corruption. These results improve our understanding of the aid-corruption ...

This experiential exercise serves as a vehicle for students to enhance their understanding and insights on these concepts as they critically examine, in a highly involved setting, the two opposing views of corporate social responsibilities--profit maximization only versus stakeholders’ view of social responsibility.

Literature suggests that appropriately formulated instructional decisions and strategies for motivationally relevant classroom dimensions are likely to enhance students' academic motivation and achievement related behavior through fostering their motivational beliefs. Based on a review of several seminal student academic achievement motivation models as well as relevant literature, this paper identifies five major class-room dimensions or instructional contexts--academic tasks, authority/autonomy, evaluation and feedback, students' goals, and rewards, and presents specific instructional strategies for each. These instructional strategies, when appropriately utilized by business school fac-ulty, are expected to maximize student motivation in college classrooms. Educators should apply these strategies in a concerted and com-plementary manner (because of the di...
