An experiment was conducted to study dry matter partitioning, yield and grain protein content of fine aromatic Boro rice (cv. BRRI dhan50) in response to nitrogen and potassium fertilization. The experiment consisted of four levels of nitrogen viz., 0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ha and four levels of potassium viz., 0, 30, 60 and 90 kg/ha. The results revealed that at growth stage, the highest total dry matter partitioning and accumulation were obtained from 150 kg N/ha along with 90 kg K/ha at physiological maturity stage. At harvest, the highest number of tillers/hill (8.58), number of grains/panicle (113.9), grain yield (5.15 t/ha) and grain protein content (8.30%) were obtained from 100 kg N/ha along with 90 kg K/ha. Total dry matter partitioning and accumulation were greatly influenced by the application of 150 kg N/ha along with 90 kg K/ha. Application of 100 kg N/ha along with 90 kg K/ha interaction appeared as the promising practice in fine aromatic rice (cv. BRRI dhan50) cultivatio...

Sugar is an important source of energy for the human body although it receives blame for many health problems, without it, the body would cease to function properly. Nearby thirty percent of the world sugar comes from sugar beet. Production of sugar beet globally spans diverse regions with a wide range of climatic and agro-ecological regions which shows exclusive management challenges. Fertilizer or nutrient management is one of the practices that associate with fertilizer use efficiency and production of the crops including sugar beet. As the nutrient management interacts with different agro-ecological areas and soils, the fertilizer recommendations and management have become regional and site-specific. Maximizing beet and sugar yields, the knowledge of the management of the fertilizers or nutrition is very essential. This article is to understand the impact of different fertilizers in different management practices including the major nutrients of the crop, fertilizer rate, timing...

The role of different nutrient elements is well established in plant metabolism. However, different crops respond differently in relation to their growth and yield. An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the response of sulphur and zinc nutrition to the seed yield and oil content of mustard (cv. BARI Sarisha-14). It, laid out in RCBD with three replications was consisted of four levels of sulphur (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1) and Zn (0, 1, 2, 3 kg ha-1). It was observed that 60 kg Sulphur ha-1 gave significantly highest seed yield, oil content and harvest index owing to the highest number of branches plant-1, siliqua plant-1, seeds siliqua-1 and 1000-seed weight. Conversely, 0 kg Sulphur ha-1 provided the lowest seed yield and oil content of mustard. Again, the highest number of braches plant-1, siliqua plant-1 and seeds siliqua-1 was found at 3 kg zinc ha-1 which resulted in the highest seed yield, oil c...

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University in 2015 to observe the effect of row arrangement and nitrogen level on the growth and yield of transplant Aman rice cv. BRRI dhan34. The experiment comprised three row arrangements viz. single, double and triple row arrangement and six nitrogen doses viz. 0, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 kg N ha-1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The highest number of total tillers hill-1 (9.43), number of effective tillers hill-1 (6.44), number of grains panicle-1 (140.03), grain yield (4.68 t ha-1), straw yield (7.28 t ha-1), biological yield (11.96 t ha-1) and harvest index (39.13%) were recorded in double row arrangement and the lowest grain yield (4.13 t ha-1) was obtained in triple row arrangement. Application of nitrogen fertilizer showed significant differences in all yield components except 1000-grain weight. In case of interaction, the highest plant height (143 cm), number of total tillers hill-1 (10.5), number of effective tillers hill-1 (7.09), number of grains panicle-1 (150.10), grain yield (5.65 t ha-1) and straw yield (8.17 t ha-1) were recorded in double row arrangement fertilized with 80 kg N ha-1 and the lowest grain yield (3.12 t ha-l) was obtained from the combination of triple row arrangement with 0 kg N ha-1. So, cultivation of BRRI dhan34 in double row and fertilized with 60 kg N ha-1 is a promising technique to obtain the highest grain yield.

The research work was conducted to find out the effect of variety, spacing of transplanting and nitrogen (N) rate on the growth, yield and protein content of transplant aman rice. The experiment consisted of three rice varieties: BR11, BRRI dhan49 and BRRI dhan56; two spacings of transplanting: 25 cm × 15 cm and 20 cm × 10 cm; and three N-levels: 0, 60 and 80 kg N ha -1. Morpho-physiological characters, yield contributing characters and yield of transplant aman rice were significantly influenced by variety, spacing of transplanting and N rate. Experimental results indicated that BRRI dhan49 in combination with 25 cm × 15 cm spacing and 80 kg N ha -1 gives the highest leaf area index, total dry matter content, crop growth rate, number of effective tillers hill -1 and number of grains pancle -1 , and lowest number of sterile spikelets panicle -1 and sterility percentage of grain. These growth and yield parameters attributed the highest grain yield (5.51 t ha -1 ) by this combination. ...
