It has been reported that EphB2 is related to caudal remodeling events. The aim of this study is to investigate EphB2 expression in anorectal development in normal and rat embryos with anorectal malformations (ARMs) and attempt to define its role in anorectal morphogenesis. The ethylenethiourea (ETU) rat model of the ARMs was used in this study. Immunohistochemical analyses and real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were carried out to investigate EphB2 protein localizations and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels. (1) Rat embryos with ARMs were obtained by treating pregnant rats (n = 24) with administration of ETU on gestation day (Gd) 10. Normal rat embryos (n = 111) and embryos treated by ETU without ARMs (n = 90) were the control groups, and embryos with ARMs (n = 108) from Gd13 to Gd16 were divided according to the sections taken from specimens. (2) Embryos were sequentially sectioned in the sagittal and transversal planes before staining with a specific antibody to EphB2. Spatiotemporal study was carried out on EphB2 expression. (3) Individual frozen sections were used to manually microdissect the cloaca and anorectal specimens for total RNA extraction. EphB2 expression was evaluated by real time quantitative PCR. On the immunologic labeling study, EphB2 expression was confined to the cloaca in control groups, whereas EphB2 expression was mainly located at the urorectal septum (URS) and cloacal membrane on Gd13 and Gd14. The increased positive expression was observed in the fused tissue of the URS and cloacal membrane on Gd15. On Gd16, the anal membrane broke down, and the rectum was able to be in contact with the anus, and EphB2 expression was then noted in mucous membrane of rectum. EphB2 expression was seen in the cloacal and anorectal tissues of embryos with ARMs. By integrated optical density (IOD) measurement, IOD value of EphB2 protein was significantly lower in the ARM group than that in the control groups on Gd13 to Gd16 (P < .05), respectively. As shown by real time quantitative PCR, EphB2 expression was detected in 3 groups. EphB2 mRNA level increased on Gd13 to Gd16 but gradually decreased after Gd16. The expression level of EphB2 mRNA in the ARM embryos was lower on Gd13 to Gd16 than that in control groups (P < .05). EphB2 expression decreased in the ARM embryos and was confined to URS and cloaca, whereas it was higher in control group. Our data thus indicated that EphB2 molecules possibly contributed to the anorectal morphogenesis and the decreased expression of EphB2 might be related to the development of ARMs.

With stratified cluster sampling method, 2438 Kazakh children aged 6 - 13 from eight elementary schools were recruited from the Yili Kazakh autonomy region from May to June in 2009. Height, weight, blood pressure, waist circumference and hip circumference were measured. Body mass index (BMI) value was used to determine overweight or obesity. The overweight and obesity distribution pattern of gender, age (6 - 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 - 14 years old group) and region (city, county and countryside) was analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of overweight or obesity. The prevalence of obesity and overweight in Yili Kazakh autonomy region was 1.64% (40/2438) (male: 1.62% (20/1232), female 1.66% (20/1206) (χ(2) = 0.69, P = 0.41)), and 5.13% (25/2438) (male: 4.79% (59/1232), female 5.47% (66/1206) (χ(2) = 0.59, P = 0.44)), respectively. The obesity prevalence of 6 - 7 year-old children was 3.72% (8/215), 2.30% (10/435) for 12 year-old group and 2.19% (6/274) for 13 - 14 year-old group. The difference of obesity and overweight prevalence among different age groups was significant (χ(2) = 14.29, P = 0.04). The prevalence of overweight was 8.77% (35/399), 6.92% (74/1069), 1.65% (16/970) (χ(2) = 42.09, P = 0.00) in city, county and countryside. And the prevalence of obesity was 2.75% (11/399), 2.43% (27/1069), 0.30% (3/970) (χ(2) = 18.13, P = 0.00) in city, county and countryside. Logistic regression analysis showed that children with family obesity history (OR = 2.73, 95%CI: 1.42 - 5.22) and culture level of fathers (OR = 1.65, 95%CI: 0.29 - 9.25) were independent risk factors of obesity. There was a correlation between blood pressure and waist-to-hip rate (r = 0.10, P = 0.00). Moreover, the correlation existed between systolic pressure (r = 0.47, P = 0.00), diastolic blood pressure (r = 0.37, P = 0.00) and BMI. Correlation existed between waist circumference (r = 0.81, P = 0.00), hip circumference (r = 0.78, P = 0.00) and BMI. There is no sex difference of overweight and obesity prevalence in Kazakh children aged from 6 to 13 year-old. Both family history of obesity and culture level of the fathers are factors of obesity and overweight to Kazakh children.

PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to determine rs9930506 polymorphism in 118 patients with overweight or obesity and 141 controls. Serum lipid level including total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, plasma glucose levels, and plasma insulin were monitored by using enzymatic method (Hitachi automatic clinical analyzer) and radioimmunoassay kit respectively. The genotype distributions of the control group and overweight or obesity group were in the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The frequencies of AA, AG and GG were 0.458, 0.492 and 0.050 in the overweight or obesity group and 0.582, 0.397 and 0.021 in the controls respectively. There was no significant difference in frequencies of AA, AG and GG genotypes between control group and overweight or obesity group (χ(2) = 4.795, P = 0.091), but the frequency of GG + AG genotype in overweight or obesity group (0.542) was higher than that in the controls (0.418) giving significant difference (χ(2) = 3.957, P = 0.047). The frequencies of A allele were 0.703 in the overweight or obesity group and 0.780 in the controls respectively. There was significant difference in frequencies of A allele frequency between controls and overweight or obesity group (χ(2) = 3.986, P = 0.046). In the overweight or obesity group, the plasma glucose levels, BMI and hip circumference were (4.93 ± 0.52) mol/L, (79.70 ± 11.73) and (21.61 ± 2.72) cm in the persons with GG + AG genotype and (4.69 ± 0.56) mol/L, (75.28 ± 11.52) and (19.92 ± 1.98) cm in those of AA genotypes respectively. The plasma glucose levels, BMI and hip circumference of the persons with GG + AG genotype were higher than those of AA genotypes and the statistical significance was also observed (t = 2.430, P = 0.017; t = 2.053, P = 0.042; t = 3.891, P = 0.000). The present findings suggest that rs9930506 polymorphism on chromosome 16q12.2 may be associated with the development of overweight or obesity in the Hazakh Children, and the polymorphism may have some influence on serum glucose levels, BMI and hip circumference in this population.

Theoretical and experimental studies reveal the formation of the intramolecular aggregation. The spectrographic, photophysical and nonlinear optical properties of these compounds are adjusted for the formation of the intramolecular aggregation. The bis-phthalocyanine dimer presents smaller fluorescence quantum yield, lower triplet formation yield and the triplet-minus-ground state extinction coefficient, which causes poorer optical limiting performance. It is interesting that the tris-phthalocyanine is composed of a mono-phthalocyanine part and a bis-phthalocyanine part, the optical limiting property of the tris-phthalocyanine is similar to that of mono-phthalocyanine.

MethodsThe CTV and PTV margin were determined in three dimensions by four radiation oncologists using a standard method in 10 lung cancer patients, and compared to consensus values. Transfer error was measured using a rigid phantom containing gold markers. Systematic error ([Formula: see text]) and random error ([Formula: see text]) set up errors were calculated in three dimensions from pre-treatment and post-treatment cone beam CT scans. Finally, the margin between the CTV and PTV was corrected for set up error and calculated. ResultsThe margins between the CTV and PTV with IGRT (and without IGRT) were 0.88 cm (0.96 cm), 0.99 cm (1.08 cm) and 1.28 cm (1.82 cm) in the anterior and posterior (AP), left and right (LR) and superior and inferior (SI) directions, respectively. Images from two other patients verified the validity of the corrected margin. The target delineation errors of the radiation oncologists are considered to be the largest compared with the set up errors. The application of IGRT reduced the set up errors and the margins between CTV and PTV. ConclusionsThe delineation errors of radiation oncologists are the most important factor to consider for the margin between CTV and PTV for lung cancer. IGRT can reduce the margins by reducing the set up errors, especially in the SI direction. Further research is required to assess whether the reduction in the margin is solely based on set up errors.

The NVM main memory has advantages of low standby power, high density, and good scalability. Its non-volatility, however, induces a security design challenge that data retained in memory after power-off need to be protected from malicious attacks. Although several approaches have been proposed to solve this problem through data encryption, they have some limitations such as high design complexity and non-trivial timing/energy overhead. Moreover, these techniques decrease the lifetime of NVM main memory due to extra write operations caused by encryption. In order to overcome these limitations, we propose an efficient PAD-XOR based encryption scheme in this work. A novel PAD generator based on a randomizer and several sub-PAD tables is introduced. With the PAD generator, our encryption scheme can provide run-time data protection to all data in NVM memory with low timing and power overhead. In addition, the encryption process can co-operate with wear-leveling of NVM to reduce design complexity. More important, our encryption technique has no impact on lifetime because no extra writes are incurred. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared to prior approaches, our design can achieve the same security strength with substantial lower overhead in respect of timing, energy consumption, and design complexity.
