Meine Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen im Bereich der Arbeitsbeziehungsforschung, der Arbeitssoziologie und der Kapitalismusanalyse.
Ich interessiere mich für die Veränderung von Klassenbeziehungen, daraus folgenden Konfliktpotenzialen und Möglichkeiten gesellschaftlichen Fortschritts.
Ich habe bisher vier Bücher veröffentlicht.
In meiner Dissertation "Zwischen Disziplinierung und Gegenwehr" (2015) rekonstruiere ich Deutungsmuster, mit deren Hilfe prekarisierte Beschäftigte ihre Arbeits- und Lebenssituation verarbeiten. Im Fokus stehen (Ent-) Solidarisierungs- und (De-) Mobilisierungspotenziale für gewerkschaftliches Handeln.
In "Aus der Krise zur Erneuerung. Gewerkschaften zwischen Sozialpartnerschaft und sozialer Bewegung" (2016) setze ich mich mit jüngeren hoffnungsvollen Veränderungen in den deutschen Gewerkschften auseinander (Organizing, bedingungsgebundene Tarifarbet u.ä.), ordne diese in einen großeren historischen Zusammenhang ein und unterbreite einige politische Vorschläge für eine linksgewerkschaftliche Agenda.
In "Streikrepublik Deutschland" (2016), das ich gemeinsam mit Klaus Dörre, Stefan Schmalz und Marcel Thiel geschrieben habe, untersuchen wir Organisierungsbewegungen in Ostdeutschland (IGM und NGG), rekonstruieren deren Entstehung und Entwicklungdynamik und verbinden dies mit einer explorativen Auseinandersetzung mit Streikbewegungen aus dem Jahr 2015.
In "Ein unanständiges Angebot? Mit linkem Populismus gegen Eliten und Rechte" (2017) analysiere ich gemeinsam mit Violetta Bock den Aufstieg der extremen Rechten, die gesellschaftspolitische Polarisierung und deren Gefahren und Möglichkeiten. Abschließend unterbreiten wir einen politisch-strategischen Vorschlag für eine populare Klassenpolitik, in deren Mittelpunkt die Organisierung von Gegenmacht, die Hinwendung zu den Vielen, die Verbindung unterschiedlicher Kämpfe (etwa um die soziale Frage, gegen Rassismus etc.), eine Politik der "populistischen Verdichtung", das Eintreten für demokratische Souveränität und der Streit für eine rebellische Regierung stehen sollte.

Aber wie wird diese Entwicklung von ihren Neumitgliedern gesehen? Was hat diese dazu überhaupt bewogen, in die Partei einzutreten? Welche «Klassengeschichten» können sie erzählen? Was erwarten sie von der Partei und von ihrem eigenen Wirken in der Partei? Inwiefern greift die Partei aus Sicht von Neumitgliedern die richtigen Themen auf, verfolgt angemessene Taktiken und Strategien? Und wie können sich die Mitglieder die Partei besser zu eigen machen, inwiefern muss dafür das innere Parteileben anders organisiert, müssen Ressourcen anders verteilt werden? Die hier vorliegende empirische Stichprobe liefert diesbezüglich einige wichtige Anhaltspunkte.
