Constantino worked for the Philippine Mission to the UN and the Department of Foreign Affairs, in addition to being a historian. He died on September 15, 1999, after a life that began on March 10, 1919. Renato Constantino, a Filipino historian and academic, taught us to investigate, correct, and learn from our colonial history. He desired for Filipinos to have a useful remembrance of their history in order to further their search for true nationhood. The paradoxes surrounding Rizal's status as a national hero are discussed in the article Veneration without Understanding. I realize that it's not only about Rizal not earning it, but also about whether or not only one national hero is essential. This demonstrates that the author Renato Constantino strongly thinks and openly states that Jose Rizal should not be acknowledged
