It adopts a historical approach based on a critical review of the literature to explore U.S.' use of its military, political, and economic powers to advance its political and foreign policy goals in the region. Many analysts considered the Reagan Administration's official reason for the invasion as merely a smokescreen for expansion of U.S. influence in the region during its Cold War rivalry with the former Soviet Union. It was an ominous reminder of how powerful nations exploit the vulnerabilities of weaker nations to advance their national interests. The invasion rolled back some of social and economic development gains achieved during Maurice Bishop's brief regime. The U.S. abandoned its obligations to Grenada following the invasion. The invasion complicated U.S.-Caribbean relations in terms of U.S.'s benign neglect of the region while at the same time leveraging its clout to advance its political, strategic/security and economic interests. The lesson is that small nations should strengthen internal democracy and forge regional political and economic ties in order to preserve their sovereignty.

These components can work together to improve reproductive health. But in order for this to work, consumers and states need information with which to assess plans. This review article summarizes state contracting theory and argues that states should use this structure to require health plans to collect and report meaningful data that patients, providers, plans, payers, and third-party researchers can access. Now that the Supreme Court has upheld the PPACA and states must set up health insurance exchanges, populations can benefit from improved care and outcomes through data transparency.

Participants were equipped with relevant tools for re-designing courses for increased student engagement and attainment of student learning outcomes. The program promoted expertise in retooling courses to promote student-centered learning by exposing students to digital learning tools that reflect current and emerging technology trends in higher education as well as best practices in implementation of active learning strategies. The focus was on application of technology and implementation of active learning practices in two political science courses: a research methods and general education course. These insights have improved the author's professional development competencies; importantly, the implementation of technology-based learning has resulted in improved student achievement as evidenced...

We presented either visual or textual portions of the Constitution to 71 American 18- to 22-year-olds using Survey Monkey Audience, measuring and comparing their knowledge of the Constitution before and after viewing. Respondents viewing the comic of congressional duties experienced statistically significant gains in pretest to posttest mean knowledge scores. Respondents viewing the text also experienced an increase in mean scores pretest to posttest; however, these changes were smaller and not statistically significant. This indicates that students may better comprehend content from visual depictions of difficult texts. We conclude by providing an example of one way that we use comics of political texts as a tool for student learning in an international civics exchange program.
