Thus, this paper aims to investigate the association between feedback strategies, embedded course syllabus and learning improvement in the Sakai Learning Management System. Design/methodology/approach-This paper uses a survey design to collect cross-sectional data from adult distance learning students. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and a standard multiple regression model in Stata. Findings-The results show that feedback strategies (timing, mode, quality and quantity) and embedded course syllabus have a significant relationship with learning improvement. However, the feedback strategytargetis not significantly related to learning improvement though it is the highest feedback strategy. Originality/value-This paper has contributed to the extant literature by providing empirical evidence to support the constructivism theory of learning from a distance learning perspective in a developing country. The study has shown that if the feedback strategies are well managed and applied, they would make a considerable impact on distance education students' academic pursuits. Hence, the paper provides a pedagogical foundation for short and long-term distance learning policy.

Using life table procedures, we found evidence that, when other factors are held constant, older cohorts, women with no schooling, those who work in the agricultural sector, those affiliated with traditional Ghanaian religions, Mole-Dagbanis, rural residents, residents of the Volta, Brong-Ahafo, northern, and upper regions, and low-parity women show longer durations of breast feeding. It is recommended that, along with other fertility reduction measures, prolonged breast feeding among all Ghanaian mothers should be encouraged to help reduce conception and to ensure healthy children.

The University of Ghana’s Master of Arts (M.A.) Programme in Distance Education and E-Learning (DEEL) offered its first e-Portfolio course in the Second Semester of the 2017-2018 Academic Year. This three-credit course was the final core requirement of the M.A. programme to enable students to use inquiry, reflection, and integration (I-R-I) principles in a structured way to demonstrate their growth and development as professionals. This paper focuses on the e-Portfolio experiences of one student (the lead author) and feedback from the instructor (the second author) about e-Portfolio pedagogy, the theoretical underpinning and the technology that underlie these all-digital platforms. The purpose of designing this e-Portfolio was to showcase the knowledge, skills, and core competencies acquired through the DEEL programme. The selection of artefacts for inclusion reflects constructivist learning theory while the collection of artefacts reflects positivist learning theory. In order to ensure that e-Portfolio leads to realisation of a targeted educational goal, Bloom's Digital Taxonomy was used to target specific taxonomy levels. Distance Education and eLearning (DEEL) programme is designed to develop qualified professionals in distance education and eLearning delivery and management. The rationale behind DEEL is to give prospective learners the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills to lead the DEEL enterprise within organizations such as educational, business, government, non-profit organizations.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dominant drivers of the adoption and usage of LMS by faculty to enhance e-learning education in universities in Ghana. The study tested selected variables in Innovation Diffusion Theory, the Technology Acceptance Model, and some constructs pertaining to Image, Subjective Norms, and Facilitating conditions, based on data from a census of 435 lecturers, which secured 283 completed questionnaires. The fit indices revealed a good fit between the measurement model and the data: (χ2 = 383.23, df = 271, p < .05; SRMR = 0.046; TLI = 0.965; CFI = 0.971; RMSEA = 0.038. One of the tools deployed for ICT-mediated teaching and learning is the Learning Management System (LMS). Unfortunately, some lecturers’ adoption or use of the LMS for teaching in Ghana appears to be below par, and if the apparent deficiencies are not tackled, e-learning education in the country could lag behind international standards in the foreseeable future. The purpose of the study was to explore factors influencing lecturers’ use or non-use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in Ghanaian universities, in the hope of strengthening e-learning education in Ghana. Judgmental sampling was utilized to select twenty lecturers from the focal universities. A semi-structured interview guide was used to collect data, and the data were analysed thematically. The functionality the LMS, its ease of use and the use...

A review of the literature revealed that skills mismatch between the training offered by universities and skills required by the market, structural mismatch between middle and upper level manpower production, the scrapping of National Manpower Planning Board and poor attitude towards vocational training are the major factors currently fuelling graduate unemployment in Nigeria. This paper therefore develops a framework for a new policy orientation in matters of higher education employment in Nigeria which will not only take advantage of the existing strengths within the Nigerian economy but will open up massive employment opportunities for higher education graduates. This framework calls for the deliberate opening up of five economic domains for graduate employment, namely, the agricultural, mining, hospitali...

The most important factors associated with longer birth intervals are infant/child mortality, formal education, involvement in professional occupation, being non-Catholic, non-Moslem, being Akan or Mole-Dagbani, involvement in polygyny and residence in the Greater Accra region. However, the evidence does not show a consistent pattern of delayed births in most recent cohorts when the other background factors are taken into account. Overall, the impact of most of our variables on birth spacing is small. Thus, in spite of what appears to be modest attempts by subgroups of women to change their childbearing practices, the evidence shows that there has been no sustained decline in fertility in Ghana.
