In spite of all adversity, Armenians have remained united in their shared memory and spirit, beyond time and space. Such extraordinary predisposition for resilience and spiritual communion is defined Armenity, a term that, for non Armenians, can be sensed, grasped, perhaps, even embraced in its enigmatic implications, but never fully understood. As for Chatwin Australian aborigines, who travelled across their lands in an utter and mysterious symbiosis, each Armenian path, each mountain (the Ararat!), each city or village, constitute a living memory, a trace in the order of ancestral traditions, the fragment of a story that can only be comprehended by natives, those who were born there, or bear its genetic architecture; A land that mystically travels in and via the DNA of each descendant, in spite of distance and age. Arshak Sarkissian is permeated with Armenity. He was born and raised in Gyumri, the second major Armenian city, tragically known for the disastrous earthquake that scourged it in 1988. A true son of his time, the artist experienced the fall of the Soviet empire followed by the complex transition toward a new independent nation that had to be reconstructed from scratch. In a time that required ideas, knowledge, economic resources and, above all, the imagination of individuals inspired with one or multiple visions ... should they be pragmatic or creative. In such a context, Arshak's first steps in the art world began at a very young age. As a polyphonic researcher, who travels over and beyond the aesthetic and the structure of the artwork, the young artist experiments and alternates mediums that include painting, drawing, printing, sculpture and installation. By playing with and in between the boundaries of traditional signs and symbols, he generates a babylic idiom that intertwines, overlaps and eventually reorganizes the real. Arshak's vision begins, and is eventually fulfilled, through artworks pervaded with memories, ancient and modern forms, tension and humor, and eventually infused with both personal and collective drama. The versatile and mutating nature of his characters conveys hybrid and often disturbing reminiscences of his historical-cultural heritage. His fervent imagination generates vivid and constantly mutating art forms while his creative process is constantly inspired by Western iconographic models that leads him to reinvent expressions such as painting, engraving, sculpture and theater costumes. Fashion and Transgression is an exhibition of representations of fashion in Europe and the United... more Fashion and Transgression is an exhibition of representations of fashion in Europe and the United States between 1900 and 1950. Identity, gender, taste, style, glamour, the new woman, spectacle, orientalism, and the body are among the themes revealed in a variety of materials taken from several Los Angeles collections. The exhibition explores tensions between personal and social identity, as well as the tensions between the liberation and regulation of the body. It is through this exploration that “fashion” and “transgression” emerge as complementary forces, continuously appropriating and destabilizing ideals. Further, the woman, or the man dressed as a woman, is shown not only as the creator and object of spectacle, but as a spectator who consciously interprets what is presented as fashion. Finally, the exhibition demonstrates how mass media democratizes fashion, allowing a broad audience to become participants in the process of defining it.

The exhibition Bernini and the Roman Baroque, Masterpieces from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia presentl... more The exhibition Bernini and the Roman Baroque, Masterpieces from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia presently on view at the Jules Collins Museum, Auburn, AL, presents various reasons of interest, starting with the purpose of introducing the foreign public to the genesis of Roman Baroque while providing a closer approach towards an artistic style that became a protean cultural phenomenon that concurrently spread from Naples to Venice, from Vienna to Prague and from Bohemia to St. Petersburg, to finally assume a planetary dimension throughout the South American continent.
The extraordinary gallery of oeuvres on display includes paintings, decorative arts, and a number of original inventions that substantiate the cosmopolitan climate that galvanized the eternal city throughout the seventeenth century as the destination and crossroad of masters coming from all regions of Italy or from foreign European countries. Furthermore, the exhibition invites the visitor to embark on a stimulating journey into the polyphonic and visual universe of the Baroque, with the dual aim of sharing part of our great artistic heritage and generating a transnational dialogue on the origin of language and modern thought.

The exhibition The Form of Color, from Tintoretto to Canaletto, presents a collection of masterpi... more The exhibition The Form of Color, from Tintoretto to Canaletto, presents a collection of masterpieces by some of the greatest masters of Italian painting between the sixteenth and the eighteenth century, mostly unknown to the public. A selection of 51 paintings and 4 drawings by Giovanni Antonio Canal, called Canaletto, including masters such as, Guercino, Tintoretto, Jacopo Bassano, Pieter Paul Rubens, Pietro da Cortona, Bernardo Strozzi, Sodoma, Francesco Maffei, Morazzone, Bernardo Strozzi, Guercino, Giovan Lorenzo Bernini, Pompeo Batoni, and many others... The paintings are part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Ancient Art of the city of Trieste, presently closed to the public. The exhibition represents an interesting and unvaluable journey into the aesthetics and poetics of the history of Western art, as well as it encompasses a reliable representation of the most relevant moments in the Italian cultural developments occurred during three of the greatest centuries of all times. In this sense, the exhibition project is well articulated and of great appeal: a significant visual journey into the history of Italian art and its stylistic and human mutations.
The exhibition (Un)Forbidden City, presented by Gao Zhen e Gao Qiang, alias the Gao Brothers, and... more The exhibition (Un)Forbidden City, presented by Gao Zhen e Gao Qiang, alias the Gao Brothers, and curated by Dominique Lora and Simona Rossi, with an introduction by professor Achille Bonito Oliva, is a project aimed at representing an insight of the new tendencies of the Chinese contemporary art scene. The context will be a series of cultural events dedicated to China and the countries that are considered as part of the Silk Way, including South East Asia and India. The events are promoted by the museums of Rome and are scheduled to open in October 2011 at the Rome Contemporary Art Museum MACRO. The choice to involve the Gao Brothers, (two artists internationally recognized for their social and cultural commitment as both artists and curators) in the artists’ selection process, came up from the desire to provide a common stage for groundbreaking Chinese art as a site for debate. The show is meant to be a creative journey for the artists, a transnational project aimed to map a reality that could be defined as “Glocal”; namely an alignment between local and global knowledge and living…
The Gao Brothers Lu Feifei, Chang Lei, Wu XiaoJun, Li Xinmo, Shen Ruijun, Gao Shen, Sung Ping, Sun Lei are all characterized by a generational matrix rooted in the underground culture of the student protests. Those artists share aesthetic codes and formal expressions that combine new media and popular culture toward the construction of a novel identity. Their artistic experiments, hybrid and disrupting, include photography, painting, installations, performances and video art.

Mimmo Cattarinich can be considered among the Italian authors who forged the history of Italian and international cinematic photography. His work is permeated with a personal stylistic code that culturally goes beyond his being Italian, leaving us with an extraordinary repertoire of images that retraces the succession of periods, trends and evolutions that have changed western society from the post-war period to the present day.
His career as a photographer begins in the middle of fifties at De Laurentis’s film studios while attending the coffee house of his father. Here he is taken under the wing of set photographer Di Giovanni, who allows him to assist the shootings. Therefore, he is only seventeen years old when he leaves his accounting studies in order to closely pursue the myth of the cinema. He soon becomes a set photographer and collaborates with many directors such as Mario Bava, Blasetti, Bolognini, Dino e Marco Risi, Comencini, Lizzani, Patroni Griffi… His talent soon catches the eye of other famous directors including Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Pedro Almodovar.
Cattarinich alternated his work as a set photographer with portraiture, commissioned from a number of famous national and international magazines. He immortalized monumental stars such as Alberto Sordi, Marcello Mastroianni , Maria Callas, Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren,,Clint Eastwood, Vittorio De Sica, Henry Fonda, Faye Dunaway, Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve,. But also younger actors such as Monica Bellucci, Debra Winger, Penelope Cruz, Mickey Rourke, , , Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, Oliver Stone, John Malkovich,, Rupert Everett, Javier Bardem, Isabelle Huppert, as well as politicians and sport stars.

From 2018 to 2020, in collaboration with Ambassadors, Cultural Institutes, organizers and curator... more From 2018 to 2020, in collaboration with Ambassadors, Cultural Institutes, organizers and curators dedicated to making the treasures of our peninsula known abroad, part of the Palazzo Chigi collection in Ariccia embarked on an extraordinary journey through the lands of Eastern Europe . Of these different stages of our modern Grand Tour we proudly remember the Bernini and the Roman Baroque exhibition, masterpieces from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia, presented at the National Gallery of Armenia in Jerevan. Here, thanks to the contribution of our embassy, we have created an exhibition full of meanings and, above all, a spokesperson for our history and bearer of that idea of beauty and humanity forged during the glorious century that saw the birth, development and spread of Roman baroque in the world. In this context, the Palazzo Chigi museum is pleased to complete the bilateral cultural dialogue begun with Armenia by hosting the exhibition by Arshak Sarkissian, one of its most promising contemporary artists.

Mimmo Cattarinich can be considered among the Italian authors who forged the history of Italian and international cinematic photography. His work is permeated with a personal stylistic code that culturally goes beyond his being Italian, leaving us with an extraordinary repertoire of images that retraces the succession of periods, trends and evolutions that have changed western society from the post-war period to the present day.
His career as a photographer begins in the middle of fifties at De Laurentis’s film studios while attending the coffee house of his father. Here he is taken under the wing of set photographer Di Giovanni, who allows him to assist the shootings. Therefore, he is only seventeen years old when he leaves his accounting studies in order to closely pursue the myth of the cinema. He soon becomes a set photographer and collaborates with many directors such as Mario Bava, Blasetti, Bolognini, Dino e Marco Risi, Comencini, Lizzani, Patroni Griffi… His talent soon catches the eye of other famous directors including Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Pedro Almodovar.
Cattarinich alternated his work as a set photographer with portraiture, commissioned from a number of famous national and international magazines. He immortalized monumental stars such as Alberto Sordi, Marcello Mastroianni , Maria Callas, Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren,,Clint Eastwood, Vittorio De Sica, Henry Fonda, Faye Dunaway, Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve,. But also younger actors such as Monica Bellucci, Debra Winger, Penelope Cruz, Mickey Rourke, , , Natalie Portman, Antonio Banderas, Oliver Stone, John Malkovich,, Rupert Everett, Javier Bardem, Isabelle Huppert, as well as politicians and sport stars.

From 2018 to 2020, in collaboration with Ambassadors, Cultural Institutes, organizers and curator... more From 2018 to 2020, in collaboration with Ambassadors, Cultural Institutes, organizers and curators dedicated to making the treasures of our peninsula known abroad, part of the Palazzo Chigi collection in Ariccia embarked on an extraordinary journey through the lands of Eastern Europe . Of these different stages of our modern Grand Tour we proudly remember the Bernini and the Roman Baroque exhibition, masterpieces from Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia, presented at the National Gallery of Armenia in Jerevan. Here, thanks to the contribution of our embassy, we have created an exhibition full of meanings and, above all, a spokesperson for our history and bearer of that idea of beauty and humanity forged during the glorious century that saw the birth, development and spread of Roman baroque in the world. In this context, the Palazzo Chigi museum is pleased to complete the bilateral cultural dialogue begun with Armenia by hosting the exhibition by Arshak Sarkissian, one of its most promising contemporary artists.

In occasione della manoifestazione artistica promossa da Barilla, l’artista napoletano Franz Cerami presenta 4 grandi opere liberamente ispirate ad alcuni simboli proverbiali del la città Partenopea. L’artista ridisegna e reinventa segni, simboli e tradizioni realizzando cosi un viaggio sensoriale e coinvolgente. 4 video installazioni site-specific ideate e configurate per essere proiettate sulle mura di Castel dell’Ovo, 4 capitoli di una storia che racconta la napoletanità, il legame tra il popolo napoletano e l’arte gastronomica della pasta, tramandata di generazione in generazione fornendo alla comunità un formidabile senso di identità.

The extraordinary gallery of oeuvres on display includes paintings, decorative arts, and a number of original inventions that substantiate the cosmopolitan climate that galvanized the eternal city throughout the seventeenth century as the destination and crossroad of masters coming from all regions of Italy or from foreign European countries. The exhibition represents an interesting and unvaluable journey into the aesthetics and poetics of the history of Western art, as well as it encompasses a reliable representation of the most relevant moments in the Italian cultural developments occurred during three of the greatest centuries of all times. In this sense, the exhibition
project is well articulated and of great appeal: a significant visual journey into the history of Italian art and its stylistic and human mutations.
The Gao Brothers Lu Feifei, Chang Lei, Wu XiaoJun, Li Xinmo, Shen Ruijun, Gao Shen, Sung Ping, Sun Lei are all characterized by a generational matrix rooted in the underground culture of the student protests. Those artists share aesthetic codes and formal expressions that combine new media and popular culture toward the construction of a novel identity. Their artistic experiments, hybrid and disrupting, include photography, painting, installations, performances and video art.
