Continuing from our previous work, we studied the effect of a constant magnetic field on blood glucose and weight gain in laboratory mice. Methods: 28 young, female bALB/c mice were randomly allocated into four groups A, B, C and D. Group A were placed in a constant magnetic field for 20 days, group B for 20 days in a 'placebo' field, group C for 10 days in a constant magnetic field, after which the field was removed, and group D for 10 days in a 'placebo' field, which was then removed the remaining 10 days of the study. The induction force of the magnetic field was 500 gauss, and was generated by two natural magnet bars. 'Placebo' fields were created by two identical looking bars of granite. The mice were weighed daily and had their blood glucose measured at the end of the 20-day study. Results: Weight gain was similar in the four groups. Blood g...

Methods: This research was a cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of all infertile women in Shiraz City, Iran (N=70000). A total of 400 women were selected through a non-random and purposeful sampling method, but the final sample consisted of 380 subjects. The study tools were a short form of sexual self-esteem scale for women, Locke-Wallace marital adjustment questionnaire, Stockholm-Tehran marital stress scale, and Toronto alexithymia scale. The obtained data were analyzed by the Pearson correlation and multivariate regression in the SPSS V. 26. Results: The results showed a significant negative relationship between sexual self-esteem and marital stress as well as alexithymia and marital adjustment (P<0.01). Besid...

This study conducted to assess the effect of lullaby on physiologic response of neonates admitted to NICU. This is a randomized double-blind intervention trial which was performed on 52 neonates in Jahrom (Iran) 2013-2014. The samples were randomly assigned into lullaby group and a control group (sampling was sequential and randomization was by lottery). Neonates in lullaby group (n=26) listened to male lullaby via headphones during 3days and daily for 20min. Headphones without sound were placed for the control group (n=26) during this period. Immediately before the intervention, 10min later, 20min after the start and 20min after the completion of it, changes in heart rate and oxygen saturation were recorded by heart monitor, then data were analyzed by software SPSS:V 21, Greenhouse-Geisser test, repeated measures and t-test. The mean of Heart rate in secondday at 20th and 40th minutes ...

How Leishmania cells maintain near-neutral intracellular pH and proliferate in such proton-rich milieu remains poorly understood. We report here that for thriving in acidic condition Leishmania major relies on a cytosolic and a cell surface carbonic anhydrase viz. LmCA1 and LmCA2. Upon exposure to acidic medium, intracellular pH of the LmCA1(+/-), LmCA2(+/-) and LmCA1(+/-): LmCA2(+/-) mutant strains dropped by varying extents that led to cell cycle delay, growth retardation and morphological abnormalities. Intracellular acidosis and growth defects of the mutant strains could be reverted by genetic complementation or bicarbonate supplementation. When J774A.1 macrophages were infected with the mutant strains, they exhibited much lowered intracellular parasite burdens than their wild type counterpart. However, these differences in intracellular parasite burden between the wild typ...

In this study, a novel approach on differentiation of OSCs into oocyte-like cells (OLCs) has been addressed. Recently, different methods have been recruited to isolate and describe aspects of OSCs, but newer and more convenient strategies in isolation are still growing. Herein, a morphology-based method was used to isolate OSCs. Cell suspension of mouse neonatal ovaries was cultured and formed colonies were harvested mechanically and cultivated on mouse embryonic fibroblasts. For differentiation induction, colonies transferred on inactive granulosa cells. Results showed that cells in colonies were positive for alkaline phosphatase activity and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmed the pluripotency characteristics of cells. Immunofluorescence revealed a positive signal for OCT4, DAZL, MVH, and SSEA1 in colonies as well. Results of RT-PCR and immunofluorescenc...
