Design: twenty five subclinical mastitic cows from two farms, selected on the basis of California mastitis test, field chloride test and pH values were divided to two groups. Group (a): 10 lactating cows were infused 10 ml fennel honey solution 10% in sterile saline / quarter daily for three successive doses. Group (b): 15 lactating cows were infused as mentioned above guarded with intramuscular antihistaminic drug day by day for three successive doses. Before infusion (0) day, after 3 and 10 days post infusion, milk samples from each cow were aseptically collected for the total bacterial count, lymphocytic and neutrophil cell count. Blood samples were collected at the same times (0, 3 and 10 days) for certain heamatological study (total leucocytic count, percentages of band cells, segmented neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils, basoph...

A total of 150 samples of raw milk and two types of refrigerated processed dairy desserts dishes ... more A total of 150 samples of raw milk and two types of refrigerated processed dairy desserts dishes (cooked rice with milk and Mehalabia dishes) (50 for each) were collected from dairy shops and local restaurants in Assuit City, Egypt. ISO7932 method was used for enumeration of B. cereus, afterwards a PCR was performed to confirm the presence of cereulide toxin (ces) gene. In addition, the effect of different concentrations of chitosan and chitosan nanoparticles (CNPs) (0.05, 1%) on B. cereus was studied in pasteurized milk. The shelf life was evaluated by clot on boiling test and Ph value. Their pathological effect was detected by orally administration to experimental rats to investigate their adverse effect on rats liver and intestine using histopathological examination. The most prominent potent bactericidal effect was observed inCNPs 1%, B. cereus count reached to undetectable level at 5th day of refrigerated storage. The pasteurized milk inoculated with B. cereus, chitosan and CNPs...

A total of 90 samples comprising of raw milk, ice cream and Damietta cheese were randomly collected during 2013 from supermarkets and shops in Assuit (30 samples of each) and examined for presence of S. aureus. The results revealed that S. aureus was isolated with a percentage of 26.6% in raw milk, 30% in ice cream and 6.6% in Damietta cheese samples. The results of antibiogram testing revealed that 3.3% and 6.6 % of the isolated strains from raw milk and ice cream, respectively show complete resistance and 3.3% from both samples showed intermediate resistance. However, the isolated strains from Damietta cheese were sensitive to methicillin. The mecA gene was detected by polymerase chain reaction in all strains that showed complete and i...

Formulas are designed for infant consumption, and are usually based on either cow milk or soy milk. Geobacillus represents aerobic or facultative anaerobic, neutrophilic, obligatory thermophilic, endosporeforming bacteria. A total of ninety random samples of milk powder, Infant milk powder and milk-cereal based weaning food (30 samples each) were purchased from different shops and pharmacies in Assiut city. Samples were examined for total thermophillic count, total spore count at 37°C and 55°C. The incidences of Geobacillus spp. and other bacillus spp. were also determined. The mean value of total thermophillic colony count/g was 10×10; 13×10 and 12×10/ g of examined dried milk powder, infant milk formulae and milk-cereal based weaning food samples, respectively at 37°C. While at 55°C, it was 1×10 and 7.6×10/g in the same samples, respectively. Infant milk formulae were free. In addition, the mean of total spor...

Eighty milk samples were tested for their physiochemical and antioxidant properties including fat, protein, lactose, gross energy, total antioxidant capacity, vitamin C, zinc, iron and copper. The results showed mean values for the percentage of fat, protein, lactose and gross energy of 4.3±0.09, 3.4±0.06, 4.04±0.06, 75.3±1.04, respectively. The obtained data showed higher content of total antioxidant capacity (3.6±0.14 mmol/l), vitamin C (8.4 ± 0.44 mg/dl), zinc (0.33±0.01 mg/dl), iron (0.25±0.01 mg/dl) and copper (0.14±0.123 mg/dl) than that reported in previous studies on other types of milk. The study showed that nutritional contribution made by one cup of camel’s milk can meet the daily requirement for human from gross energy, vitamin C, zin...

Design/methodology/approach The present study was carried out to investigate the restoration effect of camel's milk against methoxychlor induced liver toxicity. Findings Methoxychlor (MXC) caused a significant increase in serum transaminases (aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase) and alkaline phosphatase, while MXC induced a significant reduction in total protein and albumin levels. MXC significantly inhibited lipid peroxidation and markedly enhanced glutathione in liver homogenate. Pathological damages as degeneration and coagulative necrosis of hepatocytes were established in liver. Newly formed bile ducteules denotes neoplastic changes in the portal tract with abnormal mitotic pattern were associated with the long-term exposure. Originality/value The present study concluded that camel milk treatment may play a protective role a...
