Renato Cunha
At present moment he is a Professor of the University of Brasília (UnB), working since 1994 at both graduation and post-graduation levels, respectively at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and at the Geotechnical Post-Graduation Program. He is also enrolled as an ad-hoc consultant from both the Technological and Scientific National Council – CNPq and the Coordination for Enhancement of Personnel at Superior Level – CAPES, institutions of the Brazilian federal Government. Besides, he advises national and international journals from the geotechnical area, as the Soil and Rocks, the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and the Portuguese Geotechnics, among others. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Soil and Rocks.
He has experience as educator, consultant, designer and engineer in the areas of foundations, retaining structures & excavations, and in situ testing from the civil engineering (geotechnics) field. He interacts with aforementioned areas at research, teaching and extension levels, especially for the tropical soils of the Brazilian mid-west. He supervises final project and scientific initiation students, together with master and doctorate degree candidates from the University of Brasília as well as associated foreign universities, among which one could cite the Blaise Pascal Univ. in France, the Czech Tech. Univ. in the Czech Republic or the J.A. Echeverría Institute in Cuba.
In the period relative to the end of his master degree in COPPE (1988) to the beginning of his activities at UnB (1994) and the present date, he has taken an active role in:
+ 120 thesis, dissertation, final project and overall competition defense committes;
+ 20 extension courses in the geotechnical area in institutions outside UnB, either in Brazil or abroad the country;
+ 20 participations in scientific projects, as general coordinator or as participant;
+ 80 total supervised students in several levels, from final projects, to master or doctorate degrees, either from Brazil or from abroad. From this figure, more than 50 final works have been defended and approved;
+ 230 total papers published in congresses proceedings and in technical journals from Brazil or abroad;
+ 80 attendances in national or international congresses with more than 70 total participations as delegate, speaker, president of session, or in round tables from these events;
+ 300 involvements in consulting or engineering design related jobs on aforementioned technical areas.
