It was guided by three objectives; to identify current awareness services provided to users by Mukombe library, to establish challenges affecting current awareness services and to suggest possible strategies of improving the provision of current awareness at the library. A qualitative case study research design was used in this study. The targeted population was twenty (20) respondents. These included fifteen (15) students and five (5) librarians of Kabale University, Mukombe Library. The researcher used observation method, interviewing method and document review method. The findings of the study revealed that, Current awareness services provided to users by Mukombe Library were; bibliographic verification and citation service, current awareness notices, user education, interlibrary loan, reference services, circulation service. The findings also revealed that lack of enough reading space, arrogance of users, lack of sufficient Current awareness policy, lack of professional staff, lack of cooperation and language differences were the challenges affecting Mukombe Library in providing Current awareness services to its users. Finally, the study findings revealed that possible strategies of improving the provision of Current awareness at Mukombe Library were; disciplinary committee for arrogant/misbehaving users, sensitization, improving enough staff trainings, improving on communication and encouraging cooperation.

The study analyzed reading practices among pupils in UPE schools in Uganda in order to develop st... more The study analyzed reading practices among pupils in UPE schools in Uganda in order to develop strategies for the development of a reading culture in UPE schools in Uganda. The specific objectives were; to establish the status of literacy among UPE pupils in Rukiga district; to find out the major challenges to reading among pupils in UPE schools in Rukiga district and to identify appropriate strategies to improve the reading culture of pupils in UPE schools in Rukiga district.
The study was conducted at Kyerero Primary School in Rukiga district. A case study research design using both qualitative and quantitative approaches was employed in this study. Both Questionnaires and Interview Guides were used to collect data. The total study population was sixty (60) and a sample of fifty (50) respondents was selected for purposes of this research.
The researcher encountered a problem of delay in returning the answered questionnaires. This was due to the busy schedules of the respondents, since almost all of them were busy with their class lessons. However the researcher assured respondents of utmost confidentiality in any information got from them and the academic relatedness of this research. This created a better background for the researcher to collect data.
From the findings, the major reading practices in UPE schools included; group reading, teacher-to-child approach, child-to-child approach and silent reading. In addition, pupils never had access to reading materials because schools lacked space libraries for storage of the materials, they lacked professionals who could provide them with reading materials systematically (librarians) while pupils never read frequently due to the fact that there was no time allocated for reading activities since it was not examinable.
There was need to increase the quantities and variety of NTBRMs to improve pupil: NTBRMs ratios in UPE schools. Interesting stories could make reading enjoyable, and this was important for children as they learn to read as well as for the development of the reading culture

This study was on enhancing utilization of information dissemination tools at Kabale Institute of... more This study was on enhancing utilization of information dissemination tools at Kabale Institute of Health Sciences Academic Library. It was guided by the following research objectives; identifying the types of information dissemination tools used at Kabale Institute of Health Sciences academic library, investigating the challenges faced by students in utilizing available information resources in Kabale Institute of Health Sciences academic library and suggesting possible solutions to the challenges identified. A qualitative case study research design was preferred because it helped the researcher to study the selected issues in depth. The sample size comprised of 20 respondents. Observation method, interviewing method and document review method were the data collection methods used by the researcher. The study findings revealed that different types of information dissemination tools were used at Kabale Institute of Health Sciences academic library and they include among others online reference services, library websites, reports, conferences, trainer of trainees’ workshops, magazines and notice boards, library publications, social media networks and face to face communication. It was evident that difficulty in locating library materials for quicker information search was the major challenge faced by students in utilizing available information resources at Kabale Institute of Health Sciences academic library followed by inadequate ICT Literacy Skills. Inadequate well trained information workers (library staff), Lack of awareness of library users to information resources, improper accurate information, inadequate funds to procure ICT tools were also among the challenges faced while training of staff, recruitment of qualified library staff, provision of different information materials, provision of internet facilities, creation of awareness and finally government funding were pointed out by respondents as possible solutions to the challenges faced by students in utilizing available information resources in Kabale Institute of Health Sciences academic library.

The study was guided by these objectives; To identify the kinds of Current awareness services provided to users of University Libraries, To establish challenges affecting university Libraries while providing Current awareness and To suggest possible strategies and make recommendations for improving Current awareness at University Libraries.
A Sample of fifty (50) respondents was considered for the study. These included five (5) staffs and forty five (45) users of the library. The researcher used simple random sampling and purposive sampling in identifying the sample population for the study.
The researcher employed various methods of data collection among of which included, interview guide method, questionnaire and observation methods.
The study found out that, these are some of the kinds of Current awareness in University Libraries and these included; reference service and information services, advisory and guidance services, Current awareness services, circulation services and bibliographic verification.
However, the study found out some of the Challenges Affecting Current Awareness in University Libraries and they included the following; ignorance, lack of professional staff, lack of cooperation and lack of sufficient Current Awareness Services, language differences, and lack of enough reading space, insecurity among others.
The study thus recommends the University administration to facilitate training of staff through organizing several workshops and offering scholarships both inside and outside the University targeting on the improvement of Current Awareness in University Library.
The study further recommends the University administration to lobby government donors and stakeholders like Almuni to facilitate the expansion of the current library infrastructure. In conclusion the study aimed at enhancing Current Awareness Services that included Sensitization of users, Training of staff, Formation of disciplinary committees and enhancing communication skills among others.
