Hundreds of fragments were detected in the Old Palace and in the northern part of the city area. While the wall slabs show inscriptions referring to the building activities and political achievements of both rulers some of the sculptured findings are most likely to be related to the apotropaic figures mentioned in the records of Tiglath-pileser I and Ashurbelkala. The research on these findings is carried out on behalf of the Assur-Projekt of the Deutsche Orient-Gesellschaft and the Vorderasiatisches Museum Berlin.

Among the numerous stone objects and fragments there are several outstanding findings such as the stelae of Assyrian kings, queens and high ranking officials, alabaster vessels, sarcophagi or wall slabs. All of them showing inscriptions which were carried out by skilled craftsmen. Normally these inscriptions seem to meet the standards one might call royal Assyrian: carefully carved signs and regular "sign-list forms". But there are many examples of special and peculiar sign forms which do not seem to fit in, i.e. signs made up by curious formed wedges and tails. Just mistakes or signs of neglectfulness? Or were they made on purpose? Whatever might be the case these peculiar sign forms might serve well to take a first step towards a paleography of royal Assyrian stone inscriptions.
