Patients and methods: Thirty patients (5 females, 25 males; mean age 36 years; range 17 to 58 years) who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery were prospectively evaluated. The diagnoses were nasal polyposis in 15 patients and chronic sinusitis in 15 patients. Primary and revision operations were performed in 23 patients and seven patients, respectively. The quality of life was evaluated before and six months after surgery with the use of the Chronic Sinusitis Survey (CSS), and Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-12 (SF-12). Prior to administration, the two questionnaires were translated and adapted to Turkish. Computed tomography (CT) findings were scored before and six months after surgery according to the Lund-Mackay system. The results of the surveys were compared with CT scores. Results: The postoperative SF-12 and CSS scores of all the patients improved significantly. Computed tomography scores were not found in correlation with improvements in the SF-12 and CSS scores. Conclusion: Endoscopic sinus surgery results in significant improvement in the quality of life of patients with nasal polyposis and chronic sinusitis, which may not be reflected by CT scores.

Current surgical approaches to NA are predominantly external, and may lead to a number of sequelae. We report our experience with two cases of NA operated on via endoscopic approach and discuss the indications for the endoscopic extirpation and preoperative embolization in the light of the current literature. These two cases have validated endoscopic approach for appropriate lesions. Key words: Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, endoscopy, surgery, embolization

In extremely rare conditions, it can appear in sphenoid bone, and only 2 cases have been described in literature until now. We present a case of lipoma in the body of the sphenoid bone mimicking sphenoid sinus tumor. A 16-year-old man presented to Department of Otorhinolaryngology with a complaint of nonspecific headache. There were any clinical findings on physical examination. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed and the diagnosis was made on these imaging findings. Other diagnostic technique, invasive histopathological assessment was not necessary. To our knowledge, this is the first case of lipoma in the body of the sphenoid bone with indentation to sphenoid sinus. The patient has been followed-up radiologically without the need for surgery for two years.

They originate from paraganglionic cells of carotid body, which is located in the carotid bifurcation. Two cases, operated in our department in this year, were reviewed together with three cases operated previously, in the light of literature. Carotid body tumors should be included in the differential diagnosis of lateral neck masses and examination should include Doppler USG and angiography if necessary. Key words: Carotid body, surgical excision.

The aim of this study is to analyze selective olfactory dysfunction, and olfactory bulb volume (OBV) in subtypes of IPD, and compare them with those of the healthy controls. PATIENTS AND METHODS Our study included 41 patients with IPD and age and gender matched 19 healthy controls. IPD patients were either tremor dominant (65.9%; TDPD) or non-tremor dominant (34.1%; NTDPD) type. All patients underwent neurological, ear, nose, and throat examinations, and orthonasal olfaction testing. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique was used to measure the volume of the olfactory bulb. RESULTS A significant decrease in olfactory identification scores was found in the patient group. The patients had difficulty in discriminating between odors of mothballs, chocolate, Turkish coffee and soap. OBV did not differ between the patient, and the control groups. In the TDPD grou...
