There are several studies focusing on different issues of innovation, however few of them study the footwear industry. The study was developed in the region of Tâmega e Sousa, located in the north of Portugal. For that 283 firms from manufacturing and construction industries were analyzed. By local integrated firm were considered those firms that are doing all their business activities within the region where they are established. Most of firms (83.2%) in this region present very good results in the adoption of sustainable strategies, while 80.9% present a weak adoption of intrapreneurship strategies. Crossing variables on local integration and sustainability it was found a light tendency in favor of local firms, i.e., local firms apparently are more concerned with the regional sustainable development, than those that are acting outside the region borders. On what regards the relation between local integration and the adoption of intrapreneurship strategie...

The most significant literature on this emergent theme was gathered through a criterion search, resulting in discovering 4060 related documents. To narrow this considerable number of documents, a bibliometric analysis was performed. A database was exported from Clarivates’ Web of Science for clusters analysis in VOSviewer’s software. Afterward, it was possible to identify the top authors and documents. Four trends were identified: one Asian, headed by China; another Anglo-Saxon, led by the USA; and two European trends, run by Italy and Germany. Furthermore, were identified two research gaps: (1) The development of pro-environmental technology and (2) digital readiness models for manufactur-ing SMEs.

However, the models that exist are something close to “one size fits all”. This means that those models might not be suitable for activity sectors with specific requirements, such as construction, in particular, the renovation and remodelling construction firms. The present research proposes a PMMM to assess the PM capabilities of Portuguese renovation and remodelling Project-Based Firms (PBF). To achieve this goal, the authors developed documental research, followed by exploratory research through qualitative analysis. The researchers conducted semi-structured interviews and performed a content analysis of the fully transcribed interviews. Compared with the literature review’s findings, qualitative analysis results made it possible to find closure on previous research that indicated two models to have the...

Applying a Design Sci-ence methodology this paper aims to describe the process for the development of a solution for obtaining an overview of the Digital Maturity in the manufacturing industry of the region of Tâmega e Sousa (an industrial region located in the north of Portugal). The evaluation process consisted of a sample of 53 companies that allowed to get a first picture of the region. Summing up, it is possible to say that a digital strategy is in the companies’ plans with a focus on pro-cesses digitalization. In general, an overall digital strategy for the companies is in line with the marketing and human resources, in a middle position, with a few companies taking the lead, the majority following, and some others still now awakening to this reality.

This study was done in a region of northern Portugal (Vale do Sousa) and focus on Industrial and Construction sectors. The region is composed of six concelhos in some of which it is possible to identify some industrial districts. In order to get a valid sample, a group of 251 firms were analysed. The results present a high level of risk aversion and some findings that go with literature on innovation, such as higher levels of education lead to more innovative managers, or young managers are more innovative. It was concluded, that those managers that were able to search and explore opportunities in the past, present better levels of entrepreneurship in their firms.

However as presented in the title, the study will go further by comparing the results of those strategies in familiar and non-familiar businesses. This study was carried on in construction and industry sectors, in the region of Vale do Sousa, in the north of Portugal. In order to classify businesses as familiar or non-familiar types two criterion were adopted: (1) Management Control, (2) Family Employability. The results showed that in general SMEs in this region are not following entrepreneurship strategies. Those factors are complementarity, price level, and discount level. An online survey developed by means of questionnaires were collected from the Portuguese population. Student’s t-tests were used to test the hypothesis formulated and to analyze the consumers’ preferences. The findings corroborate that in a scenario where the bundle does not offer any discounts, preference of individual products is higher. When a 20% discount is assigned to bundles, the overall preference for individual products is still superior. By offering a discount level of 45%, the overall preference for bundles becomes higher. The positive effect of complementarity bundles valuation is confirmed. This is the first approach to evaluate the preferences between bundles and individual products in the ...

The results are based on 251 questionnaires. Usually managers present a low level of school education (changing recently). On what regards management issues it was realized that the main reason for business choice is the past experience of firm owners, and they started their businesses at their own homes (embeddedness?). The strategies followed by these firms reveal a risk adversity attitude and a lack of cooperation, considering their neighbours competitors instead of potential business partners. As a general conclusion it can be realized that in general these firms are not fostering local development.
