ISG D-ITET offers a wide spectrum of IT services and associated support. In general all offered services can be divided into two main groups: services provided on ISG D-ITET's basic mandate and those based on individual contracts. Services within the basic mandate are paid for by the department.

Access
An employee (staff) account is the basic service needed to access ISG D-ITET managed services and systems. To access ISG D-ITET managed Windows clients or terminal servers, an additional configuration of the account is required.
Key features:
- Life cycle management (account creation, modification, removal)
- Storage quota management
- 5 GB storage per account (see service NAS storage employees) are free of charge
- Initial account profile configuration
- User authentication, authorization and identification
- Data privacy separation among users
- No automatic account expiration (as opposed to other account types)
- Easy access to all permitted storage spaces (e.g. home and projects) via a central entry point (itet-stor)
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- access managed servers and clients (Linux and Windows)
- access D-ITET public student desktop computers
- access managed storage space (i.e. the employee home)
- access managed shared storage space (i.e. the project home)
- access the archive storage (must be ordered separately)
- make use of the D-ITET HPC environment
For user convenience, D-ITET account credentials (username and password) are synchronized with the ETH account. Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers support for account related problems. This product is suitable for permanent employees only.
A student account is the basic service needed to access ISG D-ITET managed services and systems.
Key features:
- Automatically set up for every D-ITET student
- Life cycle management (account creation, modification, expiration)
- Storage quota management
- 5 GB storage per account (see service NAS storage students) are free of charge
- Initial account profile configuration
- User authentication, authorization and identification

This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- access managed servers and clients (Linux and Windows)
- access D-ITET public student desktop computers
- access managed storage space (i.e. the student home)

A guest account is the basic service needed to temporarily access ISG D-ITET managed services and systems as a guest. To access ISG D-ITET managed Windows clients or terminal servers, an additional configuration of the account is required.
Prerequisites:
- An IAM account (employee, guest or student) has to be created first

This product is suitable for external, loosely associated individuals working for a limited amount of time on a project at D-ITET. Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers support for account related problems.
A project account is the basic service needed to access ISG D-ITET managed services and systems when working on projects in work groups consisting of multiple persons sharing the project's data.
Key features:

- Data privacy separation among different project groups
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- share project data among multiple users
- access managed storage space (i.e. the project home)

- store data in amounts exceeding the typical space usage for user homes
- facilitate managing project data for long-term projects where work group members change over time
This product is best suitable for central storage of research project data. Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers support for account related problems.
An exercise account is the basic service needed to access ISG D-ITET managed services and systems in the context of student exercises.
Key features:
- Life cycle management (account creation, modification, expiration)
- Storage quota management
- Initial account profile configuration
- User authentication, authorization and identification
- Accounts will be removed at the end of each semester
- Data sharing among members of the same exercise class
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- access D-ITET public student desktop computers
- hold exercises in these computer rooms
- provide access to exercises (also for non-D-ITET students)
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers support for account related problems. This product is suitable for student exercises only.
Clients
This product includes all processes involved with managed workstation/ laptop client operation.
Prerequisites:
- To access the managed clients, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").
Key features:
- ISG D-ITET is fully responsible for administration of the customer's clients. Partial resonsibility is delegated to laptop users.
- Support for Linux and Windows operating systems (OS)
- 1st level support for users and technical contacts regarding managed clients

This product comprises maintenance of managed clients with divided support responsibilities.

Support requests are handled primarily by the customer's own IT support. If necessary, support requests may be escalated from customer's own IT support to ISG D-ITET.
This product offers customers to maintain their Windows clients by means of Baramundi management software, based on ISG D-ITET's configuration.

Databases
This product offers a MySQL compatible database service on a dedicated database server.
Prerequisites:
- To access the databases and the management interfaces, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").

- MariaDB (MySQL compatible relational DBMS)
- Database storage (standard size) is included
- Daily database backup

This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- use database services and storage without running a dedicated, self-managed database server
- use up-to-date database software with included data backup
Storage requirements clearly exceeding standard space usage are subject to individual agreements with ISG D-ITET.
This product offers a MongoDB service on a dedicated database server.
Prerequisites:
- To access the databases and the management interfaces, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").
Key features:
- MongoDB (document-/ object-based nonrelational DBMS)
- JavaScript-like control language and JSON-like data format
- Database storage (standard size) is included

This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- use database services and storage without running a dedicated, self-managed database server
- use up-to-date database software with included data backup
- write JavaScript based server-side applications with well-integrated data access, e.g. using node.js
Storage requirements clearly exceeding standard space usage are subject to individual agreements with ISG D-ITET.
This product offers a PostgreSQL database service. ISG D-ITET offers this service only to users with special requirements and for applications where PostgreSQL is the only usable database option.
Prerequisites:
- To access the databases and the management interfaces, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").

- For use in special cases where MySQL/ MariaDB is no option
- PostgreSQL implements various advanced SQL features and objects

This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- use database services and storage without running a dedicated, self-managed database server
- use up-to-date database software with included data backup
- run an application which expects a PostgreSQL database backend
Storage requirements clearly exceeding standard space usage are subject to individual agreements with ISG D-ITET.
Printing
This product comprises maintenance of D-ITET public printers.
Key features:
- Refilling consumables (paper, toners, drum cartridges, ...)
- Reporting failures
- Integration of managed Linux desktops for PIA printing
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- print on D-ITET public printers, e.g. in student rooms and on floors
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers consulting and troubleshooting for printing related problems.
Rental printers of the central IT Department (ID) are charged to ISG D-ITET and are subsequently passed on to ISG D-ITET's customers.
Key features:
- The amount invoiced to the customer is the rental fee for additional printers.
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- use private printers in ETH offices without having to buy them
Revision control
This service offers GIT based revision control repositories on a dedicated server.
Key features:
- Repository storage space (usual quantities) is offered free of charge
- Automatic backup
- Web based repository setup, configuration and authorization
- Access for non-ETH collaborators
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- work in software development projects, typically in teams
Advantages in comparison to ID Gitlab:
- External user can be added easily without the need of creating and managing an ETH guest account
Usual storage quantities correspond to the typical use in small and mid-range projects. Storage requirements clearly exceeding this typical use are subject to individual agreements with ISG D-ITET. Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers 2nd level support regarding GIT issues.
This service offers Subversion (SVN) based revision control repositories on a dedicated server.
Key features:
- Repository storage space (usual quantities) is offered free of charge
- Automatic backup
- Support for event handlers (SVN hooks)
- Web based repository setup, configuration and authorization
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- work in software development projects, typically in teams
Usual storage quantities correspond to the typical use in small and mid-range projects. Storage requirements clearly exceeding this typical use are subject to individual agreements with ISG D-ITET.
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers 2nd level support regarding SVN issues.
Service deprecation note:
- Existing SVN repositories will be replaced by GIT repositories in future. Thus, when revision control repositories are requested, ISG D-ITET offers GIT repositories by default.
Servers
This product offers comprehensive maintenance of the customer's servers.
Prerequisites:
- To access the managed servers, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").
Key features:
- Operating system (OS) installation and configuration
- RAID configuration and monitoring
- Service configuration and monitoring according to customer requirements
- Integration in HPC environment if requested
- Security management: Virus protection, firewall, OS- and application updates
- Servers are integrated in ETH's central user management (directory service)
- Support by e-mail (primarily) and telephone
- Support for technical contacts on the customer side in all IT matters
- Hardware problem analysis
This service is particularly interesting for customers intending to:
- delegate all server administration to a team of IT professionals
- have a competent all-round support by ISG D-ITET
- save time by outsourcing IT system maintenance
- design and set up a server system with specific requirements
This product permits access to D-ITET's Arton HPC cluster.
Prerequisites:
- To access the Arton cluster, any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students" or "Account management for guests".
Key features:
- A cluster dedicated to high performance computing (HPC) tasks
- Resource management using Slurm resource manager
- CPU-Computing resources "Arton"
- GPU-Computing resources "ArtonGPU"
- Integration of laboratory's dedicated servers
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- run computationally intensive scientific jobs
- quickly access compute resources without having to wait weeks for a free slot
The usage entitlement is granted for a fixed usage fee, which is payable once a year and per customer.
This service offers a Windows desktop running on a remote server managed by ISG D-ITET.
Prerequisites:
- Remote access to the terminal servers requires a D-ITET user account (product "Account management for employees")
Key features:
- Offers a windowed Windows desktop accessible from any client over the network
- Fully functional Windows desktop with a set of preinstalled applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Adobe Distiller, ...
- Web-based access with a generic web browser
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- access Windows applications from computers running a non-Windows operating system like Linux or macOS
This product offers Altium Concord Pro ("Altium Server"), a server-side component for Altium Designer, a PCB and electronic design automation software for printed circuit boards. Altium Concord Pro is a components library management system accessible from the Altium Designer application.
Prerequisites:
- To access the Altium Server, the Altium Designer software and any type of D-ITET account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students, "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for projects").
Key features:
- Single source for component data, real-time sourcing information, component traceability within designs, and collaboration with your mechanical design team
- Provides one standardized method and place to easily find, create and reuse component data
- Offers bi-directional ECAD/MCAD collaboration
- Helps to identify where any component has been used and helps to keep designs up-to-date
- Access to real-time supplier and standards data directly from the design environment, including availability, alternatives, and pricing information (Octopart, IHS Markit)
This service is particularly interesting for customers intending to:
- work with the Altium Designer software
Software
This product offers both commonly used and customer specific software.
Prerequisites:
- To access Linux software a D-ITET user account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students", "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for guests")
- To access Windows software a D-ITET Windows account is required (products "Account management for employees" or "Account management for guests")
Key features:
- Software packaging
- Software updates and patches
- Access to a repository containing a variety of applications
- Packaging/ installation of special (e.g. scientific) software on request
- Software building from source on request
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- access a variety of standard and scientific software
- use customized software
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers 2nd level support regarding software problems.
ISG D-ITET offers Windows software subject to license from ETH's IT-Shop to its customers. ISG D-ITET is responsible for correct software licensing and takes care of charging the resulting costs to its customers.
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- use licensed Windows applications from ETH's IT-Shop
This product is not applicable for software which expects users to register personally for a license (e.g. Adobe products)
Storage
This product offers storage space to store the data resulting from personal work of employees.
Prerequisites:
- Product "Account management for employee accounts" is required
Key features:
- Access via NFS (from ISG managed Linux devices only) and Samba protocols
- High availability through redundancy
- Daily data backup of entire storage space
- Backups are kept for 90 days
- 5 GB of free quota per account
- Space consumption above 5 GB is subject to individual charge
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- store personal documents and work protected from foreign access
- have their data automatically backed up
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers troubleshooting for storage service access problems. Sharing this storage's data among multiple users is not allowed.
This product offers storage space to store the data resulting from personal work of students.
Prerequisites:
- Product "Account management for student accounts" is required
Key features:
- Access via NFS (from ISG managed Linux devices only) and Samba protocols
- High availability through redundancy
- Daily data backup of entire storage space
- Backups are kept for 90 days
- 5 GB space per account (default, more on request)
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- store personal documents and work protected from foreign accesses
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers troubleshooting for storage service access problems. The storage's data must not be shared among multiple users.

- Product "Account management for exercise accounts" is required
Key features:
- Access via NFS protocol (from ISG managed Linux devices only)
- High availability through redundancy
- Daily data backup of entire storage space
- Backups are kept for 90 days
- 5 GB of quota per account (default, more on exercise mentor's request)
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- store exercise data generated during exercises for learning purposes and keep the data up to the end of the semester at most
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers troubleshooting for storage service access problems.
This product offers a large temporary storage space.
Prerequisites:
- A regular D-ITET user account is required (products "Account management for employees", "Account management for students", "Account management for exercises" or "Account management for guests").
Key features:
- Storage is accessible from Linux systems
- Designed for quick storage of large temporary, reproducible data.
- The data on this storage is not backed up
- Storage space is free of charge.
This service is particularly interesting for:
- users having a spontaneous or urgent need to store reproducible data
- users deciding to store data which wouldn't fit in their home
This product is available for project accounts (product "Account management for projects") on request only.
This product allows to store larger quantities of data to personal archive storage space.
Prerequisites:
- Either "Account management for employee accounts" or "Account management for project accounts" is required
Key features:
- Access via NFS (from ISG managed devices only) and Samba protocols
- High availability and speed through redundant disk storage
- No backup. Data is secured against system failures, but not against modification or deletion by the user
- 5 GB of free quota per account
- Space consumption above 5 GB is subject to individual charge
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- move larger amounts of data no longer actively used from a user or project home to an archive space, in order to free up space in the home
- be able to quickly access and copy the archived data back to a regular home when it is needed again.
Large quantities of small files should be moved into an archive file (.zip/ .tar.gz etc.) before moving that data to the archive. Data in the archive should not be accessed directly by continuously running processes (e.g. compute jobs). Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers troubleshooting for storage service access problems.
This product comprises archive space for long term storage.
Prerequisites:
- An LTS account is required (product "Account management for projects")
Key features:
- WORM (Write Once Read Many) based storage
- Access via NFS and Samba protocols
- Data stored on redundant tapes
- Product is free of charge
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- move away data no longer used (but still of value) for archiving purposes
- archive data in order to comply with legally required retention periods
- free up user home space by moving unused data to the LTS
This service is based on storage provided by the central IT Department (ID). Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers troubleshooting for storage service access problems.

- Protection against spam and viruses
- E-mail distribution lists (editable by means of web-based editor)
- Free choice of e-mail aliases
- Webmail service - browser-based access from the world wide web
- Mailing lists (closed community discussion groups, moderated by the customer; automatic archiving function provides a searchable index of archived discussions)
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:
- have more flexibility und fewer limits in their e-mail experience
Advantages in comparison to ID Exchange Mail
- Higher limit for mailbox size
- Higher limit for mail size (attachments)
- No restriction for total amount of mails in mailbox
- More powerful mail filtering
- User friendly distribution list editor (web GUI)
Additionally, ISG D-ITET offers 1st level support regarding e-mail issues.
This product offers a dedicated mailing list manager service for the customer.

This service offers a comprehensive instant messaging (IM) solution to D-ITET members.

- Create global, organization-wide and local chatrooms
- Exchange messages and arbitrary data

A self-managed device (e.g. laptop) has to be registered and configured for LAN based network access at ETH. ISG D-ITET creates and maintains network configurations.
Key features:
- Registration of a device with its MAC address to allow it to access the network
- DHCP configuration to dynamically assign an IP address to the device
- Optional DNS configuration allows access to the device remotely through a hostname
This service is particularly interesting for users intending to:

ISG D-ITET offers support and minor functionality enhancements to web applications developed under a separate contract.
