It indicates that the conventional understanding of citizenship ? a nation state?s citizenship- which remains one dimensional and inadequate in explaining contemporary citizenship practices, has left its place to cultural citizenship. The new concept of citizenship embraces cultural flexibility, and the reproduction of cultural, linguistic and class knowledge that build the cultural capital of social classes; it demands rights which preclude social injustice and alienation among ethnic or marginal groups of society. Cultural citizenship takes into consideration the components of citizenship besides the rights and duties, such as identity, belonging, participation etc. It (cultural citizenship) questions the main promise of citizenship, the equality, and suggests dealing with it from the perspective of the subcultures.Departing from this theoretical framework, this paper aims to analyse how the Turkish Jewish population experiences cultural citizenship in Turkey. Accepting the idea that the perception of citizenship practices are reflected from/through discourse; the Jewish minority?s newspaper ?alom has been chosen as the source of material for analysis.

They significantly impact our daily lives, and subsequently how we interact with one another and the world around us. This transformation in human interactions has brought about an intellectual debate on the construction and presentation of the self. In this day and age, in order to understand and interpret human interactions, scholars have to take into consideration people’s digital selves; which are increasingly becoming reflections of our offline selves. This paper analyses the presentation of one’s self on Twitter, using Ervin Goffman’s terminology. An analysis of digital selves using ten different Turkish anonymous profiles on Twitter with a large amount of followers will be presented in terms of the presentation of individual’s digital selves and their relation with the offline selves of the users.

In addition, the presence of humour is also increasing in the new social movements of recent history. The essential questions that this article aims to answer are how humour functions and what its purpose is amidst a time of numerous and notable social movements. During the 2013 Gezi Park protests in Turkey, the protesters made significant use of humour that specifically targeted the control of the authorities over public life, thus providing a good case with which to study humour in social movements. One form which the protesters used to disseminate humorous messages was graffiti. In this article, the graffiti from the Gezi Park protests is examined using a critical discourse analysis model. In order to achieve the intended aims, Van Dijk’s (1995) understanding of ideological discourse analysis arguing that dominated groups may have ...

As a result of the development of digital media technologies during the 1990s, activism has found another space in which to enact this struggle, a symbolic arena by which it can shape new forms of activism. Such forms include electronic advocacy, virtual sit-ins and other types of activity known as “hacktivism” and “culture jamming”. This symbolic arena of the digital media environment, with its personal blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, is a very useful platform for observing power and resistance practices and organizing digital activism at the micro level. One form of digital media activism is that of tactical media, born in the 1990s and still a key research topic. The term tactical media refers to shifts from adherence to strict ideological positions to the abandonment of ideology; from rejection of consumption to the use of consumption for political ends; from rejection of aesthetics to the use of aesthetics for political ends; and lastly, from a focus on the content of media to the use of media as content (Braman, 2015). In this manner, tactical media engages with media resistance practices and separates itself from the mainstream media. The main questions this study aims to answer are: considering its relation with power and resistance, what does the use of tactical media mean and how can it be applied? For this purpose, the culture jamming work of icmihrak.blogspot.com has been chosen for analysis as an example of tactical media practices.

Abstract Although it is possible to connect a social theory which uses pragmatic leitmotif with Marxist critical theory, it is generally accepted that these two traditions of social theory are poles apart. This essay argues that Habermas' emphasis on intersubjectivity, which when communicatively accomplished, made a possible collaboration between them. Thus, starting from the general opposition between the two traditions, firstly, their understandings of psychology which are rooted in Freudian and Meadian ideas and secondly, the way in which the communication perceptions derived from their psychology are analyzed.

Abstract
Although it is possible to connect a social theory which uses pragmatic leitmotif with Marxist critical theory, it is generally accepted that these two traditions of social theory are poles apart.
