This study was doctrinal legal research, the researcher used primary sources such as text books, statutory laws, case laws etc. This study revealed that customary succession laws are not suitable in today’s society, it is because it favours men more than women when it comes to property inheritance thus encouraging gender inequality and discrimination. In such cases, women and girl child are denied inheritance, for instance, among the Buganda culture, the customary heir who is a male gets the biggest portion of the deceased property. This study also revealed that unlike other types of succession, Islamic law of succession provides a complete literature on who is entitled to and what portion of the property should a person receive. In such cases, women and girl child are provided forunder the Islamic law of inheritance. This study recommends that Islamic succession laws should be adopted in matters of inheritance in Uganda.
