以下に、IPv4およびIPv6で使用しているプロトコル番号の一覧を示す。
IPv4ヘッダにおいてはProtocolフィールド、IPv6ヘッダにおいてはNext Headerフィールドで使用されている。どちらのIPのバージョンでも同じ値が使用されており、IPヘッダの直後に続くヘッダのレイアウトを定義する。どちらもフィールド長は8ビットである。プロトコル番号はInternet Assigned Numbers Authority(IANA)によって管理され、割り当てられる[1]。
