This study is descriptive in nature and the descriptive action research was utilized in form of survey and written test to elicit the evaluation Level of Awareness in Disaster Management among the Coastal Areas in Can-Avid Eastern Samar. A regression analysis and measures of central tendency was used to describe the impact of respondents demographic factors to their level of awareness and also to describe the strength of awareness after, during and before a disaster. LOCALE OF THE STUDY The study was conducted in Can-avid Eastern Samar on its different coastal barangays namely barangay Rawis, barangay 1 , 2 , and 3 as well as barangay Canteros Eastern Samar. Only the coastal areas were considered by the researchers because these are the areas that are most affected by typhoons hence, the impact and level of awareness in disaster management during typhoon was also the major target of the researcher.

The study sought to identify the livelihood projects, describe the socioeconomic benefits derived from the enterprise and recognize the government and non-government organization assistance in the implementation of the projects. The investigation utilized a descriptive method of research adopting a standardized questionnaire. Results revealed that 33% of the respondents were in quarrying, the rest were distributed to crop production, livestock, poultry and other livelihood activities having 40% of them established the projects for over a year while 80% of them utilized their own capital. As to socioeconomic benefits, 60% of the respondents claimed that the project increased their income, while the rest were distributed to have improved their buying capacity for food, clothes, sending their children to school, providing shelter and other basic needs. It was further revealed that their other sources of income were derived from child grants such as 4Ps, old age pension and disability grants. As to the attitudes of their children and the general community towards the livelihood projects, 41% and 40% of the respondents claimed that their children and the community rated Good respectively. As regards to Government and Non-government assistance to the projects, 19% of the respondents claimed to have received assistance in the form of training, farm record keeping and other assistance. The rest of the respondents were not beneficiaries of any assistance from these agencies.

The study utilized a descriptive research design to determine the participation of rural women specifically on their economic activities carried out in the community, their involvement in protecting and conserving Olot River Watershed resources and the level of participation in community development. It utilized a standardized questionnaire in gathering the data. The results revealed that 88% of the subjects subscribed to farming, while the rest were on fishing, food processing, hairdressing, sewing and knitting, handcraft and creative arts, selling dried fish and other products, quarrying and other economic activities. While other activities to provide traditional income includes laundry and cleaning services. With regards to the participation in community development, 52% of the respondents acted as volunteers during emergencies and calamities and the rest were active in community-based group and in caring aged and orphans. As to their involvement in protecting and conserving the Olot river watershed, 54% was on valuing of the importance of watershed forest reserved area and avoidance of destructive activities in the watershed, the rest were focused on tree planting activities, reporting to authorities on activities engaging illegal logging, Education and Information Campaign (EIC) for watershed management and protection program, implementing and passing of ordinances and attendance in meeting and gatherings to discouraged quarrying activities. However, responsible stakeholders need to: (a) put high premium in tapping women's role as productive partners in economic activities through sustainable women capacity building programs and projects. (b) empower women as generators of volunteerism during emergencies and calamities and as co-equal protectors of watershed resources.
