The study revolves around the postcolonial feminist criticism and theory. It investigates the female characters of the novel A Golden Age using this theory. The theory looks at the suppression and stereotyping of women in the east, how it is different from the west. Though the women of the said novel is sometimes subjugated by male oppression, which can be characterized an enforcement of imperialist ideas, their eventual empowerment is also show and is discussed as a topic of key interest in this paper. To understand and solve the central problem of this paper elements have been taken from other existing works in postcolonial feminist criticism and theory. Some of which are included in the ‘Review of Literature’ segment. The ‘Text Analysis’ critically shows the key issues of this paper with a comparison and contrast to another prominent novel evoking, somewhat, the same issues. The work will thus try to justify its claims with proper sources and citations.
