The specificity of the Virgo (Parthenos) and Dionysos cults, worshipped in Chersonesus on behalf of the entire civic community, was accompanied by polis-wide public festivals (the Partheneia and Dionysia), allows us to classify them among the main agonistic festivals in this region. The characteristic features of both were: solemn processions (pompe), sacrifices, various agones and ceremonies of a civic nature (glorifications, crownings of citizens and foreigners). These festivals had the greatest public resonance throughout the history of the Chersonesus polis and contributed to the unity of the civic community. In addition, they influenced the formation and strengthening of inter-polis relations: the particular importance and the wide popularity of the cults were used to strengthen the Chersonesite local world, and they were also the basis for creating strong cult ties and preserving a common Hellenic oikumene on its distant periphery in the Black Sea littoral.

Стверджується, що благодійницька практика Ольвійської еліти була близька до евергетизму, в елліністичний період вона відображала соціальну гідність й оціночні орієнтири громадянського колективу.

Such connections can be clearly traced in the Olbian polis from the IV century BC. The purpose of this presentation is to determine the peculiarities of charitable activities of Olbian elites during the Hellenistic period and in Roman times. The analysis of decrees allows to conclude that the term "euerget" in the IV-I centuries BC was not a title and was not related to the obligation of wealthy citizens to provide services to the civil community. Charitable activities were encouraged by the polis ideology in the form of philotimia, patriotism and a kind of social insurance system. In the first centuries, the most influential officials and boards of magistrates were engaged in the charity and received honorary titles for their benefactions. These titles showcased the position of the polis elite representatives in the social hierarchy and were a kind of sign reflecting the recognition of local elites by the Roman administration. In addition, it created new social networks between the Roman provincial administration and Olbian political elite.

In the first centuries AD the charity of the Olbian elite and wealthy foreigners became widespread. Honorary decrees testify that the funds of magistrates were also actively used for the needs of the Olbian polis.
During this period, polis benefactors received the official title of euerget (philanthropist), which indicated the emerging of a certain aristocratic group within the Olbian polis. Some of them, who stood at the top of power, achieved the new title of "father of the polis" and a new status in the hierarchy of power, which was due to the contacts of the Olbian elite with the Roman administration.
